Lo-Q extends US waterpark presence

After five successful seasons using Lo-Q’s queue- jumping technology, Dollywood has signed a new deal that extends its relationship with the company through until 2015, including the introduction of a Q-band system at the adjacent Dollywood’s Splash Country waterpark. The waterproof RFID wristband (pictured), which will be branded as Time Saver, will allow guests of the Tennessee park to queue virtually – rather than stand in line – for a selection of Splash Country’s favourite slides and attractions, including the new River Rush waterslide coaster from ProSlide.

After renting their wristband, Q-band users select their desired ride from self-service kiosks located around the park and are notified on their

wristband when it’s their turn to ride. Guests use a separate entrance to enter the ride and skip standing in line. Over in Pennsylvania, Camelbeach Mountain

Waterpark, will offer Q-band this summer on 10 of its top slides. Camelbeach, the summer operation of the Camelback Mountain ski resort, enjoyed record attendance in 2012 and has signed a five-year agreement with Lo-Q. Earlier this year, Lo-Q has signed its first joint contract with an attraction operator since acquiring the ticket provider Accesso. As a result of the deal with Palace Entertainment, Raging Waters in California will introduce a Q-band system, while Noah’s Ark in Wisconsin has already begun using Accesso Passport e-

Clifford C Hammond 1915-2013

The founder of New Mexico’s largest amusement park passed away on January 29, Clifford C Hammond , who reached the age of 97, started the attraction in 1959 as Uncle Cliff’s Kiddieland, with just a go-kart track.

In 1963 he and his wife, Zella Hammond, moved it to a 6.3-acre area in its current location and started Uncle Cliff’s. In the 1990s, the park grew from 6 to 15 acres and name was changed to simply Cliff’s. It has seen steady growth for years, including rollercoasters, waterslides and more. Today Cliff's is operated by the family of Linda and Gary Hays. Clifford leaves behind Zella; two children, Carl Hammond and wife, Susie of Santiago, Chili and Linda Hays and husband, Gary; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and three great–great- grandchildren.

Looney Tunes 4D Just months after releasing its latest SpongeBob

SquarePants production, SimEx-Iwerks has unveiled another big name 3D film for the attractions industry. Looney Tunes 4D, starring Road Runner and Wile E Coyote, is a compilation of theatrical cartoon shorts for use in 3D/4D theatres or as individual episodes for motion rides. With the addition of high-definition, digital 3D and immersive special effects, SimEx-Iwerks believes audiences will become totally immersed in the zany antics of these classic characters. Instead of animal senses and cunning, Wile E Coyote uses absurdly complex contraptions and elaborate plans for endless pursuit of the Road Runner in these hilarious, laugh-out- loud adventures. Looney Tunes 4D is produced in co-operation with Warner Bros Entertainment.

Oliver's Show has a new super agent-themed high dive show available for the 2013 park season. The 007 Extreme show features, you've guessed it, performers dressed as James Bond, accompanied by some glamorous would- be Bond Girls.

Likenesses to any particular Bond are limited, but with this strictly unofficial show you don't need a 007 licence to give your guests a thrill. Each performance features a series of impressive acrobatic feats set to a soundtrack of James Bond theme tunes.

Viewers of the British TV diving show Splash! were given a taste of 007 Extreme during a recent broadcast and it can now be performed at your park or attraction up to five times daily. See the Splash! performance in full at bit.ly/Y3Dtin.
