Virginia’s resident Canadian attackman philosophizes on lax, life and death
Who is your favorite athlete? Sidney Crosby. Being a Canadian hockey player, he’s a great influence on me. I love the way he plays and the way he carries himself.
What’s one thing you can’t live without? Movies. I watch a movie every day. It’s something I need in my life or I’d be lost. The last one I saw was “Flight.” It wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. The last movie I saw in the theater was “The Dark Knight Rises,” but I usually just watch online. I’m not too big on theaters. I’m a laid back kinda guy. When I get home from practice and I’m trying to chill, I like to take it easy in bed and watch a movie and calm down. My all-time favorite movie is the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy — all of them.
What’s one thing that always puts you in a good mood?
No matter how bad I’m feeling, it can always be fixed with a good delicious meal. My go-to comfort food is spaghetti and meatballs.
Where did you go on your last vacation? I went to Mexico with my girlfriend. My favorite thing about the trip was seeing the waves on the Gulf. I’d never been to an actual ocean before.
What’s one thing lacrosse really needs? More athletic middies, and by that I mean more two-way middies. That’s something lacrosse needs — more fast breaks and the game going faster, like it used to be.
What’s been the proudest moment of your career? There are two. Winning the [2011] NCAA championship, and then winning the Minto Cup that summer with my box team. Those two were equally as awesome to win. I can’t put one ahead of the other.
What’s your favorite class that you’ve taken at Virginia?
Philosophy of Death and Dying. It’s about life and death. It was really interesting to hear other people’s theories on it.
What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome? My shoulder surgery was the hardest thing, because I had a lot of time off. I couldn’t play box for a season and I really had a whole year without playing.
Overtime (from Maryland midfielder Beth Glaros): If you could be good at any other talent, what would it be? Music. My brother’s a good musician. I’ve tried to play guitar. I’ve practiced and I’ve had lessons. But I’m just not musically inclined.
Double Overtime (from Cassie Pauley, Newberg, Ore.): Do you tend to see the glass half empty or half
full? I’m a positive guy, so I’ll say half full for sure.
Pose a question for our next subject. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
