Over the Top
Exaggerate the shooting motion. It’s about the overhand form. Start at 50 percent. As you get more comfortable with it, start picking up the pace on your shot. If I shoot sidearm, there’s no way I can hit that second cage.
Get your hands up and away from your body.
How to perfect your overhand shot and sting corners like Chesapeake Bayhawks midfi elder Ben Hunt
>> WHAT I DO GET HARDCORE
I work out with Jay Dyer, the Johns Hopkins strength and conditioning coach. He opened a new training facility in Lutherville-Timonium, Maryland. I go up there regularly with some of the other Bayhawks, like Mike Simon, Jeff Reynolds and Michael Evans. We do nights. All of the lifts and exercises are lacrosse-specifi c. I do a lot to work my core and legs, which are the biggest assets for a strong, powerful shot — medicine ball plans, rowing machines, ropes where you swing them back and forth. We do explosive stuff. We work on a lot of quickness and agility with ladders. We push sleds. We do it all.
ROCK THE BOAT
SHOOT ALONE
I grew up living on the water in Maryland. I love being on the water and taking the boat out. My
parents own the boat, but I would love to have my own one day — a 30-foot Sea Ray Sport Cruiser named “Life is Good.” When I’m out on the water I feel most relaxed and don’t have a worry in the world.
I like to put in my time shooting before or after practice. If I can get 15-20 minutes before practice, I’m happy. It can play a great role in your confi dence. If you feel you’re not shooting well in practice and you want to perfect it, that’s the time to do it — when no one’s watching.
MY B-MORE BOYS
I live in Federal Hill in Baltimore with a roommate of mine from North Carolina, Shane Walterhoefer, and two other non-lacrosse guys. Sometimes it’s nice that two of them are not lacrosse players. I can take my mind off of it. They don’t give a hoot about lacrosse.
MY DAY JOB
I work as a medical sales rep. I sell surgical instruments to hospitals and surgery centers. It keeps me busy. I’m personable. I like to be out talking to people and driving around. I’ll hit anywhere from three to fi ve accounts per day. My territory is all over Maryland, but primarily in Baltimore.
>> MY GUILTY PLEASURE
I’m an avid lover of Chipotle. That’s my ideal post-workout meal. I’ve been going with the burrito bowl lately. I’ll put everything on it, including guacamole. I don’t mind mixing it up. I’ll go half-chicken, half-barbacoa.
