Ian Bullock new managing director of Arriva Trains Wales Bullock, who was previously Arriva Trains Wales’ customer service director, replaces Tim Bell, who is currently on secondment to the Arriva UK Trains division’s franchise bidding team.
National Express appoints Chris Hardy Hardy is the new business development director, leading National Express’s bids for new UK rail franchises. He was formerly an
associate director for KPMG’s Corporate Finance team where he specialised in UK rail franchise bidding, and recently supported National Express in its bids for both the Essex Thameside and Great Western franchises.
Peter Austin joins LOROL Arriva and MTR, joint shareholders of London Overground Rail Operations Limited (LOROL), have appointed Peter Austin as managing director.
Austin was formerly LOROL’s finance director and has worked with the company for more than six years. He was part of the bid team that won the contract awarded by TfL.
Peter Cushing joins Metrolink Cushing has succeeded Philip Purdy as director of Greater Manchester’s Metrolink after Purdy’s decision to return to his native Australia. Cushing has been supporting Metrolink in recent years while it delivers a £1.4 billion expansion programme.

Six new members for Passenger Focus The Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, has appointed six new members to the board of Passenger Focus, the statutory passenger watchdog. Marian Lauder and Bob Linnard joined in February, Isabel Liu and Paul Rowen joined at the beginning of March and Professor Paul Salveson and Dr Stuart Burgess will join in April. Chairman of Passenger Focus, Colin Foxall, said: ‘These appointments will help ensure Passenger Focus continues to be a strong consumer organisation.’ Changes at Pre Metro Operations John Parry, the inventor of the Parry People Mover Railcars used on the Stourbridge branch line, has resigned as chairman of Pre Metro Operations (PMOL), the Toc that uses the Railcars at Stourbridge, in order to spend more time on vehicle development. Parry is succeeded by Geoff Lusher, and Steve Jasper has been promoted to operations director. Kevin Thomas joins Serco DLR operator Serco has appointed Thomas as its new managing director. Thomas, previously engineering and projects director, took on the new role at the same time as the company announced its best ever service performance. A signalling and telecommunications engineer by training, Thomas has been with Serco for ten years.
