Vibration-proof terminal blocks – Network Rail approved

Terminal blocks from WAGO featuring spring press connection technology offer proven easy-fit and shock-proof benefits for onboard and trackside applications, explains Gordon Smith, managing director.

AGO’s 280-675 terminal block is a Network Rail approved replacement for

the 2BA stud terminal. These have been used in many LOC applications within the UK. The advantage for using the 280-675 is the ease and speed of connection, plus the inherent shock and vibration proof characteristics of WAGO’s Cage Clamp.

The vibration-proof properties of Cage Clamp connections were verified in a vibration test to IEC/EN 60068-2-6. In this test, a variable frequency band up to 2000Hz, at different amplitudes up to 20mm, was passed in three axes.

In the impact test to IEC/EN 60068-2-27 for the railway applications to IEC/EN 61373, the test samples were exposed to instant shock stresses, instead of permanent vibrations.

Stresses up to 100G on the x, y and z-axis were passed without any problems. These tests helped selected terminals

gain

worldwide approvals for the rail and marine industry. The 4 conductor through terminal block (280-833) is also Network Rail approved.

WAGO’s spring pressure connector technology is used extensively for rail industry applications not only in the

UK but throughout Europe and the rest of the world. WAGO systems are simple to fit – installation time is reduced by half compared to conventional connectors – and they have established a reputation for exceptional dependability. They can be used for both on- board and trackside installations.

Applications include locomotives, rolling stock, points, heating, lighting and signalling systems.

An extensive product range is available including double and triple deck terminal blocks through to complete prefabricated systems. WAGO also provides intelligent solutions within its I/O system for building automation applications which can bring together interacting utilities for designers, managers and installers.
