This is not real. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, this illustration is a modification of a photo by editor Barry done by departures columnist Alexander Craghead for possible use with this month’s column on “rumors.” We decided not to use it there, but just had to share it. How’s this for a Norfolk Southern heritage scheme?

ing to destinations on the various ex-Erie lines. The platforms are configured so that all but one track will be lit properly in the evening rush. The new Freedom Tower, ris- ing on the site of the World Trade Center, provides a skyline highlight. Once you are finished with the platform, an overhead bridge just west of the station provides nice views of the diesel trains emerging from the lower level. Parking at both Elizabeth and Secaucus is expensive, especially at the latter which has no hourly rates (just an all-day charge of $16-$20 depending on the day). Elizabeth has more parking spots and less expensive rates. If you want to do both, park at Eliza- beth and use one of the numerous Corridor trains to get to Secaucus.

event or quiet time along a short line, you may want to participate in what has be come a favorite annual feature here at R&R. Each year in the May issue, we run a special PHO- TO LINE featuring images taken during the preceding calendar year, and we invite you to submit photos for consideration in our Along the Rails 2012 feature. The photos can be of a newsworthy event (which you proba- bly should have submitted to RAILNEWS when it happened), a special excursion, or simply just a pretty picture. The only requirement is that it was taken in 2012 of a railroad sub- ject (foreign subjects are fine).

The guidelines for submitting are simple.

Each photographer can submit up to ten slides or digital photos (if you have access to a high-quality scanner, we strongly encour- age you to scan your slides and send us the digital files). Slides must be placed in a 20- slide storage page (send the entire page, even though only ten spaces will be used). Slides
