The railway heritage group hosting the event can either purchase and stock these items for resale to maximize profits, or process an order for drop-ship- ment and receive a percentage of the profits. children, you would not necessarily need to have a moving train to benefit from this market — although that would no doubt cre- ate the most buzz. (Is a traveling dinner train out of the question?) A well-executed “wine and dine” celebration within a (re- stored) stationary dining car, or in the con- fines of a museum — perhaps decorated to resemble a station restaurant — can be ap- propriate. And while we are on the subject of stand-ins, are similar events built around microbreweries a possibility?

We know there are 15.2 million Americans looking for opportunities to build food and wine-tasting activities into their travel plans. And it is likely this would be less tax- ing on you and your staff’s nerves as well. About that *: “The Next Big Thing” is a topic at the Dinner Train and Private Car Operator’s Conference, scheduled for April 11-14, 2013, at the Center for Railway Tourism at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins W.Va. (Full Disclosure: Yours truly is the Center’s Director). For that reason, I would appreciate any and all feedback on this brief description of a big proposed project from readers ASAP. Innovation on the LM&M: Speaking of programming for adults, the Lebanon Ma- son & Monroe Railroad, out of Lebanon, Ohio, is trying something new this year: Date Night. Starting April 12 and running the second Friday of each month (except Ju- ly) through December, the train will begin boarding at 6:30 and depart at 7:00 p.m. for Mason, Ohio, and a stop right at The Brazenhead Irish Pub. A satellite view on Google Maps confirms the word “at” is cor- rect. You simply de-train, enter the restau- rant, and devote the next 2¹⁄₂ hours to ro- mance, frivolity, or both; your choice. Then, “after a night of fun at the Pub,” the railroad suggests, “you can reboard the train for a re- laxing ride back to Lebanon,” arriving at 11:00 p.m. The train ride, in restored LM&M coaches, takes approximately 45 minutes each way.

The railroad’s partner in this venture, The Brazenhead Irish Pub (www.thebrazen head.com), is recognized for its cuisine and
