Simple plywood mount allows just about any brand of motor (above left) to be installed. Hook and loop material (above right) is not only used for the

Sheet foam, some thin plywood, and a hot wire cut foam wing are what’s needed for this airframe. At a 32-inch wing span, 29- inch length, and about 300 square inches wing area, a 150-watt power system makes for an easy flying, very lively model. I’m us- ing a prop in the nose rather than rocket power, a common modeling setup. Any 5mm or ¼-inch sheet foam can be used for the construction. I like to work with BP Hobbies www.bphobbies.com construc- tion foam. If you don’t know anyone local who will cut the foam wing cores for you, I’d

attachment of the ESC, but also works well for keeping the motor wires snug to the fuselage side.

suggest The Core House http://home.earth link.net/~philcartier or Robin’s View Pro- ductions as good foam core cutting sources. I cut the sheet foam parts out with a metal straightedge and a sharp scalpel-type mod- eling knife. The 1⁄32-inch plywood nose section dou- blers add a lot of strength to the sheet foam structure, and a carbon fiber tube or a piece of ¼ · ½-inch basswood will stiffen up the rear section of the fuselage. I build primarily with 5-minute epoxy, it sticks to most of the sheet foams, but the types with thin plastic

covering on both sides need a bunch of holes poked through the covering where the epoxy will be going. Foam compatible CA certainly can be used, and will save weight. The wing spars are 1⁄8 · 3⁄8-inch basswood strips, from a hobby shop or arts and crafts store, and are epoxied into the foam wing panels. The wing tips are sanded to a rea- sonably well rounded shape, and light- weight vinyl spackling putty works well to fill in gouges and rough spots.

The two wing panels butt up against the fuselage sides, with a 1⁄8-inch plywood joiner
