Alderley Edge Girls Set Their Sights On The Stock Market

Proving that male city traders aren’t the only ones interested in the stock market, year 11 and Sixth Form students from Alderley Edge School for Girls have taken up an offer to participate in a fantasy investment league. The league was set up by wealth management firm Equilibrium Asset Management who spent time at the school to explain some of the golden rules of investments and to outline how shares and funds work. The Economics and Business Studies students were then given a fantasy investment pot of funds and a portfolio of funds that they want to invest in, to be managed over a four month period. The pupil who makes the most profit across her portfolio will be presented with an investment certificate and awarded an iPad! The school will also receive a donation of £250 and any profits made by the business-minded young students will also be given to the school. Colin Lawson, managing partner at Equilibrium Asset Management stressed the importance and relevance of women in this area of industry. “In the past, the investment industry has been male-orientated but this is changing,” he explained. “More and more females are showing what savvy investors they can be. We wanted to create a fun way to teach the pupils at Alderley Edge School for Girls the skills they need to become an investor.” Sue Goff, Headmistress at the school, also expressed her delight at the project and stressed that: “There is no doubt that these young women have the drive and enthusiasm to succeed in this industry.”
