dLa Piper announced that tara Lee (US), Jean-Pierre douglas-Henry (EMEa) and Satpal Gobindpuri (asia-Pac) have been named global co-chairs of the firm’s cross-Border Litigation practice
In recent months, dLa Piper’s global litigation practice has been recognized as the world’s largest by headcount (the american Lawyer) and the largest by revenue (the Lawyer), with full service dispute resolution capability in more jurisdictions than any other law firm. the practice has grown to the stage where the co-chairs of the firm's Global disputes practice, Robert Mathias and Stephen Sly, have deter- mined that US, EMEa and asia-Pac heads are required to best serve and respond to the ever increasing cross-border litigation needs of the firm’s global client base.

nEW PRESIdEnt the International Bar association recently announced Michael J Reynolds, Partner at allen & overy, as the new President of the IBa. His two-year tenure succeeds that of Mr akira Kawamura of anderson Mori & tomotsune in tokyo, Japan, who held the position from January 2011.
Based in the Brussels and Washington dc offices of allen & overy, Michael said on taking the helm, ‘I feel privileged to have been elected President of the International Bar association and I look forward to building on the work and momentum of my predecessors.’ He continued, ‘during my presidency I shall be focusing particularly on the impact of climate change on all of us, but especially on the disadvantaged.’ Michael is determined to bolster work being done in this field in the context of the new climate agreement to which the international community has pledged commitment to the attainment of defined goals by 2015. He continued, ‘We will also look at other ways of how the lives of the underprivileged are being destabilised, and will focus on ways to enhance or preserve their access to justice.’
In addition, Michael has stated that he will use his time in office to continue strengthening IBa engagement with legal professionals across the globe, in particular in the BRIcS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, china, and South africa); Mexico; asia, with a specific focus on Vietnam, Indonesia and Myanmar; and in africa, including the african French and Portuguese- speaking countries.
as cross-border transactions increase and more work is done through the IBa to enhance cross-border law and standards, Michael said, ‘cross-border transformations have perhaps been seen at their most radical in new technologies and social media. an IBa task force will explore the impact and potential of these for justice and the practice of law.’ He concludes, ‘our commercial emphasis thus works in harmony with our wider mission on the rule of law, without which commerce cannot function, or is diminished, and without which all individuals are dishonoured.’
Michael's term as IBa President will conclude on 31 december 2014.

Hogan Lovells has welcomed charles M. “chuck” clapton to its Health practice in Washington, d.c. as a partner.
clapton most recently served as Health Policy director of the U.S. Senate committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, where he was involved with the development of the U.S. Patient Protection and affordable care act and the U.S. Food and drug administration Safety and Innovation act of 2012.
“chuck brings a wealth of insight and perspective on health issues and public policy that will be a tremendous asset to Hogan Lovells’ clients,” said Isabel (Liz) dunst, Head of Hogan Lovells’ Health practice. “He has worked on high level policy issues across all three branches of the government, and his skills and experience are a great addition to our existing prac- tice.”
Prior to his role as Health Policy director, clapton was chief Health counsel for the U.S. House committee on Ways and Means, where he worked with House and Senate leadership, senior administration staff, and industry stakeholders to coordinate activities relating to pending legislative healthcare initiatives. He helped develop legislative proposals to reform the tax treatment of health insurance, expand access to coverage, and slow the growth in healthcare spending. Earlier in his career, clapton served as a policy assistant to Speaker of the House J. dennis Hastert. clapton also served as chief Health counsel for the committee on Energy and commerce, and he has extensive policy experience related to Medicare and Medicaid issues.
