Screenchangers and melt fi ltration | process feature

Clean game

Screenchangers play a crucial role in improving melt quality and performance. They prevent damage to downstream equipment, enhance product appearance and help to prevent mechanical failure of fi nished parts. They can also add value to recycled material and contaminated melt sources. Blown fi lm line producer Hosokawa Alpine has used

several K-SWE continuous screenchangers from Kreyenborg of Germany to increase the productivity of its lines. Screen changer systems in blown fi lm plants are

usually simple, discontinuous models that make it necessary to shut down the line for fi lter change, says Kreyenborg. These are commonly known as slide plate fi ltration systems. The K-SWE screenchanger is a modern fi ltration

system that allows the mesh to be changed without interrupting production. This means that the system can keep running while dirty fi lter elements are replaced, or fi ltration fi neness for different production batches are changed. To guarantee a smooth, reliable

fi lter change during operation, the screenchangers are provided with a separate control. These retrofi ts should eliminate production line shutdowns during fi lter change, while improving fi ltration result. Kreyenborg says that the number of start-up processes is reduced to

At the same time, Kreyenborg’s V-Type back-fl ush screenchanger is designed so that only one of its four screens is taken out of production during the back- fl ush or screen-change procedure to ensure higher constant melt pressure.

Additional benefi ts of the K-SWE-4K-75-V/RS are its higher back-fl ush effi ciency, longer screen life and constant volume fl ow during back-fl ush. It also has

optimised screen retainers with increased pressure capabilities to deliver a more effi cient back-fl ush operation. In addition, the displacement pistons and fl ow channels are confi gured to minimise the melt residence times.

The latest screenchanger from PSI-Polymer Systems includes a unique back fl ushing system, where the contaminated screen packs are fl ushed and discharged
