Matt Ferguson is the CEO of CareerBuilder, responsible for taking the company to the No. 1 position in the online recruitment industry in just five years. Under his direction, CareerBuilder continues to outpace competitors in traffic, revenue and technology innovation, and is quickly expanding its global footprint with a presence in more than 60 markets worldwide.
Ferguson first joined the company following CareerBuilder's acquisition of
Headhunter.net, where he had been serving as senior vice president of business development. Prior to that, Ferguson developed strategic partnerships
for
DigitalWork.com. He also started two entrepreneurial ventures, and practiced law at Baker & McKenzie. Ferguson holds a master's in business administration from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Northwestern University.

you discuss the acquisition?
We’re excited about the acquisition of Economic Modeling Specialists (EMSI), which is an economic software firm that specializes in employment data and labour market analysis. Joining forces, CareerBuilder and EMSI are providing clients with a unique perspective on current and future employment trends, skills development and recruitment strategies. The acquisition will not only enhance our solutions, it gives us first-mover advantage in delivering deeper, broader labour data that will change the way companies recruit.

What is the focus and strategy for the acquisition?
Harnessing the power of Big Data to devise smarter recruitment strategies is a huge competitive differentiator in our industry. Companies around the world need critical labour information to help recruit and retain the best people and drive their businesses forward.
For the past few years, CareerBuilder has been investing heavily in a Workforce Analytics platform that tracks hiring and job search trends to help companies identify the best markets for finding in-demand talent. It has been very well received by the market and is one of the major growth drivers for our business. Our Supply & Demand portal looks at the number of job listings and active job seekers for any occupation in any location to measure the labour pressure for those positions. We can tell you which cities are the best places to find your desired talent, your top competitors for talent, the aggregate profiles of candidates and more. And our compensation portal can tell you what the average pay is for positions by location, years of experience and top competitors.
EMSI’s background in complex employment data and developing user-friendly software will enable CareerBuilder to enhance this platform, creating an unmatched repository of historical and real-time labour information. Together, we are answering
questions that are top of mind for companies, academic institutions and workforce investment boards. From predictive analytics around labour supply and demand to data on emerging fields and compensation trends, we’re expanding on CareerBuilder’s thought leadership on critical employment issues. No one else in the industry can offer this breadth of information that can make recruitment faster, easier and more cost-effective. This marks a major step in our continued evolution as a company.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?
We’re integrating this information into our Talent Network solution. The way companies recruit today is different from ten years ago; job candidates use up to 15 resources for finding a job, so it’s critical to be everywhere they are. CareerBuilder is automating the sourcing and candidate engagement process through our Talent Network solution. SEO, career sites, social media, job aggregation, mobile – we use digital technology to promote job opportunities to candidates at every touch point.
We helped a healthcare company hire 136 doctors, nurses and other really hard-to-find talent within six months. A defence company was able to capture nearly 900 software engineers and other IT experts they can tap into for recruitment anytime. A staffing company reported they source from their Talent Network database of over 62,000 relevant prospects before sourcing externally – and they’re changing the types of business they bid on.
