Surface Design Show

Event Success

We talk to Christopher Newton, Director of the Surface Design Show, about the history of the exhibition…

How did the Surface Design Show first come about? SDS was first held in 2004 at the Business Design Centre in London. It changed hands once before Montgomery acquired it in 2009, just a few weeks before the show took place! Montgomery has completed a full repositioning of the brand. We have re designed the event, making it content driven with debates, presentations and CPD seminars. We have invited design colleges to show the work of their students and start up companies to exhibit with a small, subsidised presence. We have re designed the show's logo and brand image to position it as a leading event for architects and interior designers.

What's different about the show this year? Our next show runs from 5th 7th February in London's Business Design Centre. It will be slightly larger than the previous event, which is no mean feat in these difficult economic times. We should have about 120 companies exhibiting this year in total. Once again we have added to and

invigorated the content. We open on Tues 5th February at 6:00pm with our Preview Evening, the highlight of which will be the FX Live Debate. The highlight of our second evening will be the PechaKucha, hosted by Felix Mara of AJ Specification. We have recruited a great team of architects and designers to present. This year we have Official Partners for

the CPD Hub RIBA CPD Providers Network and the British Institute of Interior Design. We have also put together an educational programme for the show this year.

Who is the Surface Design Show aimed at? Architects and Interior Designers are our core audience, and we also like to see contractors and clients. 72% of SDS's audience is made up of architects and interior designers we are a specifiers show, hence the level and theme to the content programme!

How can attendees make the most of their visit? The best thing to do is to plan in advance by using our website www.surfacedesignshow.com. Make sure to visit the different features including our Future Thinking area, which highlights new and innovative surface materials and applications. Also, read the previews and attend the two evening performances. There is so much for our visitors to be wowed by...just come down to the Business Design Centre!
