Mitre Delta

V12 ball

Overview: The football is used by all 72 football league clubs. The ball is tailored to all levels and pricing points and is reported to be the most accurate ball designed by Mitre to date. The exclusive 12-panel construction off ers enhanced aerodynamics which optimises the accuracy of a shot, without sacrifi cing the speed or power.

Verdict: When comparing to other footballs on the market, the fi rst thing that is apparent is the feel and quality of the leather. You can see why the football league has decided to adopt this as their offi cial match ball. We reviewed the ball from a striker’s and goalkeeper’s point of view and found the ball to be fair and consistent for both. All too often these days the football is designed in favour of the striker, allowing for the ball to swerve and dip and deceive the goalkeeper. Think of the famous Roberto Carlos goal! The Delta V12 largely stayed true from boot to goal but allowing for a player to add swerve if he desired. Very good Mitre.

Under Armour Charged Cotton Storm Hoody

Rating 4.6/ 5

SGB Summary: A good quality, yet crucially fair ball.

Overview: The Under Armour (UA) Charged Cotton Storm Fleece Hoody has said to have changed the game by taking the comfort of soft cotton and making it dry faster with Charged Cotton. Under Armour then continued the battle by adding a water- repellent DWR coating that makes the water bead up and roll right off and the Charged Cotton Storm fl eece was born. Now you have the power to defy the elements in UA’s supercharged, water-resistant cotton. Feels like fl eece, performs like Under Armour.

Verdict: This came into the offi ce and we thought we would really test the limits of the fabric, whilst having fun at the same time! I put it on and before it was half way over my head a colleague threw a cup of water at me. It literally bounced off me. It’s unbelievable! It has now become my party trick to stick my elbow under a tap to the shock of friends. This isn’t gimmicky and actually is water resistant. It’s been washed a good 4-5 times and still has the same performance as the day I got it.

Lotto Zhero Gravity IIl

Rating 5/ 5

SGB Summary: Stays 100% dry. We don’t need to say any more!

Overview: A water-repellent microfi bre upper, sculpted with laceless technology provides a comfortable fi t and sensitivity in controlling the ball. A set of technical features used in the construction of the heel, ensures correct heel support and control. The ridges positioned on the top part of the insole provide arch massage which aids circulation and absorption of lactic acid. A Reactive Arch and insole work in synergy to maximise cushioning and stability on impact when grounded, this gives extra thrust for release. PuntoFlex technology provides the ability to fl ex the foot correctly which gives elastic return, ensuring quick acceleration and agility.

Verdict: I have always been intrigued by the laceless technology in this boot. Could it work? Turns out it does work and it works really well. It’s like playing beach football with these on. They fi t like a glove, nice and tight at the top and I was not worried about them coming off once. They gave added confi dence with fi rst touches and the new colourway is a welcome new addition. I used them on what you would call a classic Sunday league pitch/overgrown swamp and they performed exceptionally. I am a huge advocate of technology in football boots and this product may be a game changer in boots to come.
