changing of the guard in focus 2013: a changing of the guard

It was almost nine years ago that I took my seat in the editor’s chair at IBE, and during that time I have watched as the industry has evolved to meet the rapidly changing demands of end-users. In fact, the industry I joined during the first weeks of 2004 bears very little resemblance to the multi-platform, digitally enabled broadcast industry of today. IBE, too, has evolved over this period, to the point where today it is widely respected, supported by first class electronic products. Whilst it isn’t a case of ‘job done’, I believe the publication is ready to be handed on to a new editor - indeed a new editorial team - to continue its exciting development.

This is, therefore, my final issue as editor of IBE and whilst I am sad to be stepping down, I am equally excited to welcome an absolutely first class team with all the energy and industry expertise required to take IBE forward. Our new editor, Will Garside, will be well known to many of you as he has extensive knowledge of the broadcast and IT sectors - both as an editor and, previously, as a technician. He is an industry professional of the highest order, a good friend of mine, and without doubt the perfect person for the job.

We have also appointed Monica Heck as our online editor, responsible for managing our websites and e.newsletters. Monica is another industry professional with unrivalled credentials. Since leaving Harris Broadcast Communications, Monica has trained as a journalist and we are delighted to welcome someone with her skills and industry knowledge to the team. She will continue to be supported by Joe O’Halloran, another industry expert with particular knowledge of the ‘connected TV’ sector.

Back on the magazine, Chris Forrester will continue to write for us, offering a rare insight into the transmission side of the business. That just leaves me to say goodbye, and thank you for all your friendship, encouragement and support over the last nine years. I will be remaining within the broadcast sector, so this is more ‘a bientot’ than goodbye. But as editor of IBE, my work is done.
