PSNEuropecompiles this month’s list of hot new products SONTRONICS

SONORA 2

What is it? A dual-channel solid-state preamp/DI that has been designed, developed and manufactured in the UK.

Details: The SONORA 2 preamp features Sontronics’ proprietary Class A vintage circuit design and is said to be capable of delivering a high standard of audio reproduction. For ultimate recording and

ALCONS AUDIO BC332

What is it? A self-contained, high- output cardioid subwoofer system for permanent and portable ground- stacked applications.

Details: Following the footsteps of its bigger brother, the BC543, the BC332 is designed to offer a directivity controlled, high-output, tight and accurate sub-bass response, for low-frequency extension of any Alcons pro-ribbon system.

By means of a front and rear located woofer configuration, in combination with dedicated processing, the BC332 enables selectable cardioid low-frequency pattern control and rear rejection (up to 18dB), without the need for additional cabinets.

On the front side, one 18” long-excursion woofer with 4” voice-coil with double-spider and demodulation ring frame, is mounted in a front-loaded configuration, with

DIRECTOUT D.O.TEC ANDIAMO-MC

What is it? A 32-channel microphone preamp with MADI

interface. And another

Details: The latest addition to the compact sized A-D/-A converter family, D.O.Tec Andiamo-MC contains 32 high-end microphone

amplifiers and a MADI interface. Another 32 high-quality D-A converters with line outputs enable excellent sound and practical

versatility.

Redundant power supplies ensure a higher grade of reliability.

X-Venting. This newly designed reflex port

takes more than 20% of the baffle surface and is designed to maximise the system’s breathing capacity, substantially increasing overall output while minimising port-compression. On the rear side, a single 15” long-excursion woofer with 4” voice-coil with double-spider and demodulation ring frame, is mounted in a “front”-loaded configuration, with Flank-Venting port. This folded port design enables optimal reflex-breathing, under minimal baffle dimensions, reducing destructive interference between speaker and reflex-vent.

And another thing…The 2 x 4 ohms system impedance caters for optimal amplifier loading, reducing the required amplifier size and specification for full system response and maximum power output. www.alconsaudio.com

monitoring flexibility, SONORA 2 has two combined XLR and 1/4” jack inputs plus four individual outputs (two XLR, two TRS jack) as well as a -20dB pad, 75Hz high-pass filter, 180° phase reverse switch and 48V phantom power on each channel.

Its dynamic ability combined with a linear frequency response, 66dB of crystal-clear gain and +23dBu of headroom

CARTEC AUDIO THC

What is it? A 2-channel hybrid compressor.

Details: The THC (Tone Harmonic Compressor) employs eight valves and four discrete amplifiers to achieve control over dynamic range, harmonic distortion content and tonal balance. After the transformer coupled input, audio is split into two separate parallel processing paths. The first stage is a pair of variable transconductance EF183 valves operating in a push-pull configuration and feeding an ECC82 with an interstage transformer.

The second stage which splits from a separate winding of the input transformer, is intended to be blended together with the compressed output to either restore some natural dynamics, or add extra character. This uncompressed or ‘Dry’ signal is passed though a set of passive filters which allow three different bass and three different treble shelving

frequencies to be boosted, for a higher amount of a particular uncompressed frequency range.

Both signal paths each have a separate output fader before the discrete mix bus and transformer coupled output amplifier.

RADIAL ENGINEERING PZ-DI

What is it? A ‘direct inject’ box designed to work with all types of acoustic and orchestral instruments.

Details: The PZ-DI features a three-position impedance selector switch that enables users to match load with pickup. This includes a 220k-ohm setting to warm up magnetic pickups, a 1 megohm setting to replicate a classic DI box and a super- high 10 megohm setting to eliminate the squawk and peaks that are common with piezo transducers. To eliminate resonance and modulation between instruments, a variable lo-cut filter enables users to dial out unwanted low frequencies. This also helps improve clarity for a better mix. Should the PZ-DI be called upon to interface a high output

active bass or digital keyboard, the 15dB pad can be engaged.

And another thing… The PZ-DI employs 48V phantom power with an internal switching supply that elevates the rail voltage while reducing distortion of all types to deliver a smooth, natural tone. www.radialeng.com

And another thing… The THC can also form a passive Mid/Side encoding and decoding matrix with its input and output transformers, and features a switchable sidechain high pass filter at two frequencies. www.unityaudio.co.uk

suitable for the professional studio, home or live environment.

And another thing…Sontronics has also released two all-in-one recording packages – the STC-20 PACK and STC-3X PACK – each

including a
