Col. Ben S. Malcom, USA (Ret) (Life Member since 2002): Malcom entered the Army as a distinguished military graduate from North Georgia College and State University. He was inducted into the North Georgia College and State University Hall of Fame in 2010. Malcom published White Tigers: My Secret War in North Korea (Potomac Books, 2003), which was adapted into a History Channel documentary in 2005. Malcom is a member of MOAA’s Atlanta Chapter.
Col. Nanette Mueller, USA (Ret) (Life Member since 1993): Commissioned in 1982, Mueller served in logistics planning, ammunition management, and operations positions in Germany, Korea, and the U.S. in both active and reserve capacities. After eight years as a reservist, she returned to active duty in November 2001, focusing on joint air and missile defense for the homeland until she retired in June 2010. Mueller is currently a defense industry consultant. She is a past president of the Pikes Peak (Colo.) Chapter of MOAA.
Col. Thomas T. Sakamoto, USA (Ret) (Member since 1970): In his 28 years of service, Sakamoto witnessed the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63); landed at Atsugi, Japan, with Army Gen. Douglas MacArthur; and served as a language interpreter for Army Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower on Okinawa. On Nov. 2, 2011, he received the Congressional Gold Medal on behalf of his unit. Sakamoto is a member of MOAA’s Silicon Valley (Calif.) Chapter.
Maj. Gen. Merdith W.B. “Bo” Temple, USA (Ret) (Member since 2006): Temple retired from the Army in August after 37 years of service. He served as deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) since 2010. With the USACE, Temple served the longest stint, from June 2011 to May 2012, as acting commander in the history of the USACE. In 2010, Engineering News Record magazine recognized Temple as one of its top 25 newsmakers.
