ike most people in the bowling world, I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about Tony Reyes. He was such a great person, a terrific bowler and a great ambassador
One of the things I remember about Tony was the one-step shot he used to use in the PBA Skills Competition. He was very good at throwing strikes at almost full speed using a one-step approach. Believe me, it’s not an easy thing to do. I’d never suggest bowlers attempt
to throw strikes using the one-step approach, but there are valuable benefits that can be derived from using a one-step approach drill. For the one-step drill, stand 2 to 3
feet in front of the foul line. Without moving your feet, push the ball away and let it swing to the top of the backswing before you start your slide step. At that point your armswing will correspond with your slide foot. Your ball-side foot should not move forward at all. It will slide slightly behind you as it would on a normal finish. The one-step drill can benefit your game in five areas: It’s a great way to practice keeping your swing loose. If you simply let the
