Previous work includes my own version of Yarn Bombing in a series of photographs called “Suburban Graffiti” in which I used knitting to create a middle aged, feminine answer to the young, masculine, underground world of traditional graffiti. Another body of work also exploring feminising the masculine with knitting was knitted tattoos.


A fan of Rowan yarns for many years, much of my knitted intarsia work is created in my favourite, Rowan Felted Tweed, which blooms beautifully when washed and creates a wonderful painterly effect.


I was taught to knit as a young child by my mother and grandmother as a method of keeping an active child entertained when it was too wet to play outside. As a result I probably had the best dressed (and warmest) Teddy Bear and Tiny Tears on the block. As I grew up I used these skills to express my identity on a teenage budget by modifying the patterns in the Woman’s weekly magazines saved for me by my next-door neighbour, and creating my own chunky yarn from knotting together bits of ripped up sheet. My sister and her friends described me as having my own “unique style”!
