Designer Profile… Sarah Hazell

We talk to Sarah Hazell, inspirational designer and author of “Knitting in Colour”, about all things knitting.

Who would you describe as your favourite designer? It would be too hard to choose a knitting designer, so I am going to say, Celia Birtwell. Everything about her designs is flattering and innovative and reminds me of my love affair with pattern and clothes which started in the mid-70s.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not crafting? I love eating out and exploring different cities.

What’s your favourite Rowan design and why? Too hard! I love so many pieces for different reasons - sometimes it’s colour, sometimes it’s shaping and sometimes it’s the yarn choice.

And your favourite yarn? Much easier - Kidsilk Haze in all its forms!

Who taught you to knit? My mum. I absolutely hated it. It was only her patience and encouragement that turned me into the fiend I am today!

What’s on the needles at the minute? A couple of commissions and a scarf in KSH Strip, Fine Lace and Anchor Metallic, inspired by a recent workshop at Liberty as my ‘comfort’ knitting!

What will you be asking Santa for this Christmas? Some guilt free time to curl up in my oversized chair with my knitting!
