being the 1995 World Outdoor champion in the event, Batten won a total of six USA Outdoor titles in her career.


One of the more accomplished high jumpers the country has seen, Charles Austin is the current American record holder in the event with an all-time best of 2.40m/7-10.5 and was the 1996 Olympic champion. His resume includes World Indoor (1997), World Outdoor (1991) and World Cup (1998) gold medals and has won a total of eight combined USA Indoor and Outdoor championships.


Veteran athlete Pat McDonald won a pair of Olympic gold medals, which included winning the shot put at the 1912 Games and the 56-pound weight throw at the 1920 Games. He added a silver medal in 1912 in the two-handed shot put as well.


Once considered the fastest man in the world, Arthur Duffey was the favorite to win the 1900 Olympic Games, but was unable to finish competition due to injury. In 1902, Duffey set the world record in the 100-yard dash at 9.6 seconds and his career included an AAU title in 1899 and winning five straight AAA titles in England.


For 70 years the job of meet director of the iconic Millrose Games was held between the father-son combination of Fred

and Howard Schmertz. Fred took the lead on the New York City indoor meet in 1934 before transferring duties to Fred in 1975. In 2003 Fred was given the title of meet director emeritus.


The National Track & Field Hall of Fame is located at The Armory Foundation at 216 Fort Washington Avenue in Washington Heights, N.Y. Selection is based on three separate categories of inductees, which includes modern athletes (those retired less than 25 years), veteran athletes (those retired more than 25 years) and a category for coaches/contributors.
