Barker became md in 1990. With a background in overseas sales, he began exporting to countries such as Ireland and Belgium and transformed a small company with regional clients into an internationally recognised name with blue chip customers all over the world. Ron was in sole control of the business when he retired from hands-on


operation in 2006 – although he remains close at hand to advise the company from time to time. His daughter, Alison, who has been with ISS since 2001, is now co- director together with Steve Topping, who joined as sales manager in 2002. ‘We’d like to thank all the customers who have contributed to our success,’


says Alison Barker. ‘We now employ 15 staff and we’ve grown the business on a continual basis over the last four decades. We have a large manufacturing base, using sophisticated machinery that enables the company to respond to specific requirements. The result is a product that’s designed and produced to perfectly match customers’ needs.’ ‘We’re also always looking for ways to keep one step ahead and we achieve


this by increasing the product range on an annual basis. ISS now has 135 lines, including the three ranges we’ve launched in 2012, our 40th anniversary year, and they are already proving successful.’

Three Electricians In the largest independent research project ever to be undertaken by Carl Kammerling International, C.K tools has been named as the brand of choice for two out of three electricians. Key benefits of the range included their German engineering heritage, with tradesmen feeling confident they were purchasing and using a quality product, that was right for the job at hand. Keen to cement its commitment to putting customers at the heart of


everything and ensuring they stock the right products for their consumer, Carl Kammerling International invested a five-figure sum to conduct the research which included 250 face-to-face interviews across all trading channels and over 500 online questionnaires. A number of consumer focus groups were also carried out across the country. The research provided valuable insight into industry perceptions of the four key


brands – C.K tools, C.K Magma, Kasp Security and Avit – and will help to shape the company’s future growth plans. In addition to the C.K brand’s winning formula of well designed and durable


products, C.K Magma’s practical yet stylish range also received its fair share of consumer recognition. Tradesmen made particular reference to the brand’s Hit Squad activity, and cited it as one of the reasons they were encouraged to go in- store to seek items from the Magma range. In terms of security solutions, quality seemed to be the buzzword most


associated with Kasp products. Another plus point highlighted by many consumers was the informative packaging, which assisted them in making the correct choice for their needs. The informative packaging also fits well with Carl Kammerling’s continued commitment to assisting stockists as much as possible in terms of merchandising and POS support.
