Emma Cooke puts the boot into Khrio
I
t’s official. The seasons are changing, and our summer is just about over. If any of you are wondering just when our summer
actually happened, not to worry - I am well practiced in pinpointing British summers for my befuddled friends who’ve come from sunnier lands.
I think our summer this year happened in
April. Remember that one week? Yeah, that week where it didn’t rain…do you remember? It was glorious. And, as the seasons change from chilly and wet to chillier and wetter, a new batch of teenagers fly the nest and head to University.
This year is particularly poignant for me, as
my younger brother is heading off to University. Not to mention all of his friends, and a surprising amount of my friend’s younger siblings too. When did I get old enough for all these youngsters to be leaving to start degrees?!
It’s also the first year where my infinite
wisdom has been called on as a University Elder (or graduate, if you will), as I’ve been inundated with requests for advice.
It appears I’m now considered sage enough to help this year’s crop of fresh-faced, bambi- kneed undergrads through their first skittering steps into University life. So here is my top tip for University survival: get yourself a pair of sensible shoes.
I remember my first steps into University life.
They were clumsy, tottering, and I fell over more than once. Probably because I had six-inch heels strapped to my feet. And, I was in Yorkshire. In winter. In six inches of snow.
Better still is that these shoes put other more
famous brands to shame in terms of comfort, but look gorgeous. The dark chocolate tone of the leather and cream fleece peeping over the top is

My poor mum begged me to get a “nice pair of
proper boots”, (and a proper coat, and a scarf, and gloves…), but I wasn’t to be swayed. Psh, what did my mum know?! York wasn’t that cold! All that talk of Northern Winters was just old wives tales to scare a hapless young student! I could brave any….oh my Lord, it was so cold. I may not have been swayed by my mum at home, but sway I did later on the layers of ice and slush.
Of course, for the first few weeks it was all
very funny. We giggled at each other slipping about, looking like a really bad performance of Sweet Charity on Ice, but slowly the novelty wore off, as one by one we fell like skittles into bushes, snowdrifts, and unsuspecting locals.
Memories of those winters meant that when I opened my new pair of Khrio boots, with their stable chunky heels, solid leather, and snuggly fleece lining, I only had one thought on my mind. Why oh why didn’t I have a pair of shoes like these at University?!
The soft lining means the boots feel more like
slippers, molding themselves to my feet and banishing any lingering traces of frostbite – well, maybe I didn’t actually have frostbite, but I’m certain I came pretty close.
The Italian leather they’ve used is sturdy,
waterproof, and looks like it’ll take more than a few trudges through snow and ice to wear it out.
perfect for fall and winter. They’re stable and solid, but somehow don’t look clunky. I’ve worn boots that have been lovely to look at and very durable, but feel as if I’ve laced anchors to my feet. The Khrio boots are surprisingly lightweight, and I’ve been bouncing all over London in these, through rain or shine.
So in answer to all requests for advice, I give
you the Khrio boots. They can take any weather this country decides to throw and are nice to look at to boot (my University degree also gave me the ability to pun).
While I doubt they’ll stop the tottering masses
heading out in heels for a night out no matter the weather, these will be waiting for the morning after, when you need to make a 9.15 and it’s tipping it down.
Khrio sum up the sentiment nicely. They’re “a
brand that walks with you. A story being written, day by day.” These boots will walk with you whether you’re at University or heading to work, through the highs and the lows, through rain, sleet or snow.
