Four new independent Non-Executive Directors to join Standard Chartered Board
The Board of Directors (the “Board”) of Standard Chartered PLC (the “Company”) announces the appointment of four new independent Non-Executive Directors. This is the first phase of the Board succession planning exercise that commenced over a year ago designed to enhance the experience, depth and diversity of the Board.
Dr Lars Henrik Thunell is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 November 2012. As a career banker, Dr Thunell has a wealth of financial services and banking experience. Most recently he was Chief Executive Officer and Exective Vice President of International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group and, as a result, he has a detailed understanding of emerging markets.
Mrs Margaret Ewing is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 November 2012. Mrs Ewing brings accounting, finance, and regulatory development experience to the Board. She retired as a Senior Partner of Deloitte in May 2012 where latterly her role included regulatory and public policy development in a global context, firm wide risk and quality control oversight in addition to being the senior advisory partner to a number of FTSE 100 companies.
Mr Om Prakash Bhatt is appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director from 1 January 2013. Mr Bhatt is a career banker with over 30 years banking experience and retired as Chairman of the State Bank Group in 2011. State Bank Group includes State Bank of India, India’s largest commercial bank, five associate banks (the State Banks of Bikaner and Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mysore, Patiala and Travancore), the country’s largest private life insurer, a leading investment bank and other subisidaries spanning diverse activities from general insurance to custodial services.
Dr Louis Chi-Yan Cheung is appointed as an independent Non- Executive Director from 1 January 2013. Dr Cheung was an Executive Director and Group President of Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China Ltd until 2011 and a Non-Executive Director until June 2012. He has very strong general financial services and investor relations credentials, particularly in a Greater China context. Prior to joining Ping An, Dr Cheung was a global partner of McKinsey & Co and a leader in its Asia Pacifica financial institutions practice.
Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Board, said: “We are adding significant banking, financial and risk management experience to the Board as well as increasing its diversity. These individuals will be excellent additions to the Board bringing with them a wealth of experience from some of our largest markets, including India, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan”.
Trivest Partners Announces Partner Promotions
Trivest Partners ("Trivest" or the "Firm"), a Miami-based private equity firm, announced today that Forest Wester, Russ Wilson and David Gershman have been promoted to Partner. All three individuals have been instrumental in Trivest's success over the years and will join Troy Templeton, Jamie Elias and Chip Vandenberg in leadership roles in Fund V.
Forest Wester has been promoted to Partner from Principal. Mr. Wester joined Trivest in 2005 as a Vice President. He has served or currently serves on the Board of Directors of numerous portfolio companies including Endeavor Telecom, Onepath Systems, Box-Board Products and Group III International. Mr. Wester earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Russ Wilson has been promoted to Partner from Principal. Mr. Wilson joined Trivest in 2006 as a Vice President. He plays an active role with portfolio investments and serves on the Board of Directors of Ryko Solutions, Take 5 Oil Change, Ellery Homestyles and Twin-Star International. Mr. Wilson received his B.A in Business Management and Economics, with honors, from Eckerd College.
David Gershman has been promoted to Partner & General Counsel. Mr. Gershman joined Trivest in 2002 and leads the legal function for the Firm including deal structuring and transactional services. He has served or currently serves as Director of several Trivest portfolio companies such as ATX Networks, Hazmasters and Herbal Magic. Mr. Gershman earned his undergraduate degree from Union College and J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Jones Day expands its Paris Banking & Finance Practice with addition of Alban Caillemer du Ferrage and his team
The global law firm Jones Day has announced that partner Alban Caillemer du Ferrage, of counsel Qian Hu, counsel Karole-Anne Sauvet, and associates Clément Saudo and Mathilde Nicand will join the Banking & Finance Practice in the Firm's Paris Office on October 8, 2012.
Renowned as a leader in structured and derivative products and market infrastructures in France, Mr. Caillemer du Ferrage's team, formerly at Gide Loyrette Nouel, will add to the Banking & Finance services offered in Paris by Frédéric Gros and his team, which focuses on financing, debt restructuring, and financial litigation. They will work closely with lawyers in London led by Edward Nalbantian, co-chair of the Firm’s Banking & Finance Practice, and the New York team led by Jayant Tambe, co-leader of the Firm's Financial Institutions Litigation & Regulation Practice.
Mr. Caillemer du Ferrage's team will also collaborate with Jones Day's mergers and acquisitions, litigation, public law, tax and antitrust teams to serve both financial institutions and corporate clients in all their financial transactions.

The Carlyle Group Names Former Jefferies CFO Joseph Schenk Operating Executive for Global Financial Services Group
Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group today announced that Joseph A. Schenk, former Jefferies Group Inc. Chief Financial Officer and most recently Chief Executive Officer of First New York Securities LLC, has joined the firm in a consulting role as an Operating Executive in the Global Financial Services Group.
As an Operating Executive, Mr. Schenk will provide strategic guidance to Carlyle professionals throughout the investment process, from sourcing to acquisition to exit, and advise portfolio company executives on management, operational and growth strategies. He joins a group of 27 senior business leaders – with an average of 40 years of experience – who serve as Carlyle Operating Executives across a range of industries.
