In the merger of Munksjö AB with Ahlstrom’s Label and Processing Division we were advising Munksjö from the very beginning of the assignment both in terms of developing the idea and facilitating the actual transaction.
The transaction is a major move in paper industry consolidation as it is focused entirely on attractive niche specialty paper markets with underlying growth and becoming one of the global leaders in those technically demanding product markets.
The transaction is also challenging in the sense that it involves a de-merger of Ahlstrom Label and Processing from Ahlstrom Oyj, merger of Munksjö and Ahlstrom Label and Processing, de-merger of Ahlstrom’s Jacareí operations from Ahlstrom Oyj and integration into Munksjö and a new listing of Munksjö Oyj in Helsinki Stock Exchange.
We have a long standing relationship with Munksjö and their senior management making the execution of complex and challenging assingments possible and efficient.
This transaction has been a challenging but a very positive transaction for us this year as most of the projects we have been involved in this year has been restructuring of distressed forest industry assets in commodity businesses.

Rainer Häggblom has worked as an advisor in some of the largest mergers and acquisitions in the industry. In addition he has advised a large number of transactions in the pulp, paper, paperboard, wood products and other forest industry related businesses in all continents. His strategic advisory clientele includes many of the large companies in the industry, but also smaller companies facing strategic challenges and opportunities. Mr. Häggblom currently works as Chairman of the Board of Häggblom & Partners Ltd Oy, Chairman and Founder of Vision Hunters Ltd Oy., and Chairman and Partner of JPD Capital Ltd. Oy.
Mr. Vähäpassi has almost 25 year experience from finance and he is responsible for financial
arrangements for companies operating in the Nordic countries, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Russia. In addition to capital raising and financial arrangements he has specialized in M&A assignments.
Mr. Jaakkola has acted as financial analyst since 1999 with focus on forest & paper industries since 2003. He is a founding partner of E. Öhman J:or Securities Finland Ltd (2005). He established forest & paper research for FIM Securities (2003) and built research team for E. Öhman J:or Securities Finland Ltd (2005). Mr. Jaakkola has originated, supervised and contributed to several forest & paper related and other capital raising assignments.
