Doug Grimm, chairman, president and CEO of Grede Holdings LLC, Southfield, Mich., was named the winner of the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Industrial Products category for the Michigan and Northwest Ohio region.

recently announced the retirement of Bryan Baker who has worked in sales, public relations and advertising for the company since 1989.


Doru Stefanescu was recently appointed an honorary doctor by Jönköping University, Sweden.


OBITUARIES


Bruch Riutta, Green Bay, Wis., passed away January 24 at the age of 67. Riutta received his degree from Michigan Technological University in 1967 and worked as an engineer. He was vice president and owner of Upper Lakes Coal Company and Fox River Dock Company since 1983.


At the age of 84, Art Barnwell, Mike Bartol Can-Eng Furnaces International


Ltd., Ontario, Canada, announced a number of recent appointments. Alan Van Geyn has been promoted to vice chairman and Michael Kauck was named president. The role of sales manager for North American steel products has been filled by Gregory Stanley.

Canada, passed away on June 10. Barnwell began his metalcasting career at the Canadian Westing- house Co. Foundry, Hamilton, Ontario, as a sand technician, later becoming a sales representative and supervisor of quality control. He joined George F. Pettinos Company, Canada, in roles includ- ing sales representative manager, general manger and vice president before he retired in 1990. Barnwell was an AFS service life member of the Ontario Chapter and served as Chapter Chairman from 1963- 64. He also served as a National Director for the Cast Metals In- stitute, later becoming Chairman. He was awarded an AFS Service Citation in 2000. Barnwell was also involved with the Canadian Foundry Association.


At the age of 76, Bob Groves,


Davenport, Iowa, passed away on July 9. He began his metalcasting career in 1969 as a service engi-


neer for Manley Sand Division. He moved to sales and service for Martin Marietta Aggregates Industrial Sand Division in 1973 and was promoted to sales manager for the Rockton Office Division. He worked as senior sales representative for Martin Mari- etta Aggregates, Rolling Meadows, Ill., and was vice president, General Manager Distribution Group for Fairmount Minerals, Wedron, Ill., when he retired in 2002. Groves was an active member of the Chicago and Illinois/Wisconsin AFS Chapters, as well as a member of the National Industrial Sand Association.


Gregory Guilliams, Middlebury,


Ind., passed away on July 11 at the age of 54. Tough he considered himself an iron man, Guilliams worked as an electrical engineer at metalcasting facilities such as General Motors.


William Scott, Birmingham, Ala., passed away on August 13 at the age of 62. Scott graduated from Purdue University with a Master’s Degree in metallurgical engineering in 1972. He began his career at the Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, Ala., later joining Atlas Foundry, Marion, Ind., as director of research, and ESCO Foundry as a consultant. Scott also was involved with the Steel Cast- ing Research Association before begin- ning his own consulting company, AAA Alchemy. As an AFS member for more than 30 years, he served and chaired a number of technical commit- tees and was awarded the AFS Award of Scientific Merit in 1987.


At the age of 52, James (Jim)


Harbaugh, New Paris, Penn., passed away on August 26. Harbaugh began his career in the steel casting busi- ness at Texas Electric Steel Castings (TESCO), Houston, in 1958 as a lab technician and later moved into sales. He joined Quality Electric Steel Cast- ings in 1986 in sales and continued there until his retirement in 2012.
