Welcome T
he San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its annual business directory.
While showcasing our members and the Chamber is important, we also take great pride in creating a publication that reflects the unique culture of the wonderful town we represent. San Juan Capistrano is more than just a city; it’s a true “community.” This year’s directory is focused on the
diversity of our town. The history of San Juan Capistrano is fascinating and fun, but it certainly wouldn’t be what it is without the cultural contributions of many diverse groups of people that have inhabited the area. The Juaneño Indians, Mexican immi-
grants, Anglo settlers and many more have all positively influenced our town’s proud history, architecture and the charm of our community. Even the name of our City is borrowed from the Italian village of Cap- estrano. The Chamber takes great pride in working to showcase that diversity, encour- aging commerce across cultural boundaries and utilizing our multicultural heritage as a tool for economic development.
There is great diversity within the Chamber as well. We represent businesses ranging from independent consultants up to some of the largest companies in the United States. A wide variety of industries can be found from our members as well, including equestrian businesses, shops and restaurants and other community groups that we partner with to make San Juan Capistrano a better place. Like San Juan Capistrano, the Chamber
continues to grow and evolve. We continue to introduce new programs and services designed to assist local businesses with their operations. This year, for example, we have partnered with the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo to produce “Rodeo Week” in our town. Rodeo Week is a great example of an ideal Chamber program. Rather than “recreating the wheel” and coming up with a new event, we’re highlighting an exist- ing, successful event in the community. By doing this, we allow residents to engage more with the rodeo and help businesses leverage it to their own benefit. We work in this same capacity with the West Coast
Film Festival, the Swallows Day Parade and other fantastic community events. We accomplish two things by focus- ing our efforts in this way. We’re helping our members produce successful events and cultivating economic development by getting more people out and about and enjoying San Juan Capistrano. On behalf of the Chamber, we’d like to thank our members, the City of San Juan Capistrano and the residents of this com- munity for their partnership in working to enhance our great City.
Warmly, San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, OUR CITY’S STRENGTH S
an Juan Capistrano is a resilient city that prides itself on
economic development and strengthening the community. This is a com- munity in which hopes
are realized and ambitions are achieved. All across our City, signs of progress are evident. Some great things are happen- ing in San Juan Capistrano and our future looks even brighter. The City’s two-year operating budget is balanced, and our financial outlook is expected to improve over the next couple of years. For fiscal year 2013, General Fund revenues are expected to increase by 5 percent with relatively no increase in expenditures. This increase is largely due to sales tax and transient occupancy tax. A sign of the improving economy, retail sales citywide are increasing and when combined with the new car dealerships and the Costco expansion, are resulting in an anticipated increase of 10 percent.
We continue to make much progress on the business front. An updated Historic Town Master Plan project is intended to guide future development of the down- town, preserving its uniqueness as a 200- year old pueblo and at the same time, ensuring a balance with a contemporary economic vitality that leads the way for years to come. Our business community continues
to flourish. In fact, we have celebrated with the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce countless ribbon cuttings for new businesses so far this year. We look forward to even more celebrations on the horizon. San Juan Capistrano con- tinues to be focused on becoming even more business friendly. An example is the “One Stop Shop” we recently rolled out to provide folks with a more efficient City Hall experience. In an effort to streamline operations for the general public, all city business services are now handled at the City’s business friendly customer service counters, which include, business licenses,

parking permits, utility bills, public works and building and planning services. I am proud of the partnership our City has with the San Juan Capistrano Cham- ber of Commerce. Our City is becoming a long-term destination with the Chamber’s initiation of Rodeo Week and of its cele- bration of the Second Annual West Coast Film Festival. We also recently teamed up to develop an economic development video that showcases this fine community and all that it has to offer to businesses. The idea is to stimulate the local economy with new revenue sources even more. In the coming year and beyond, we will continue to focus our efforts on attracting new business and assisting existing busi- nesses to be the best they can be. We are a City that is united in provid- ing the highest quality of life possible, and I am proud to call San Juan Capistrano home.
