Bulgin push-pull coupling Buccaneer connectors launched
Bulgin - an Elektron Technology connectivity brand - has unveiled the latest addition to its rugged Buccaneer range of connectors, helping to give engineers and product design professionals greater flexibility in systems design.
The all new Buccaneer 6000 Series of waterproof power, signal and data connectors features a unique and easy to use, patent pending push pull locking system, that connects up to 10 times faster than a traditional screw thread mechanism. This latest addition to the popular Buccaneer range is designed to withstand the harshest environments and meets IP66, IP68 and IP69K standards. The Buccaneer 6000 Series includes data (USB or Ethernet), signal and power versions up to 16A, 277V, and complements the popular screw thread Buccaneer range. It is available in fully interchangeable metal and plastic constructions and the body mouldings and pin carriers have been specifically designed to create a robust interface while avoiding damage during coupling. This guarantees a correctly sealed connection - even where access is restricted. Stuart Hutchings, Marketing Manager for Bulgin, commented: “Elektron’s innovative design team has made a significant breakthrough with the introduction of the Buccaneer 6000 Series of connectors, giving a robust, fully waterproof and fast connection in a range of challenging environments. This makes these adaptable connectors ideal for a wide range of applications, from industrial automation to food processing. Elektron’s new series of connectors will be made available on a global basis through the Bulgin distribution network.

Drop in board to board connector solution allows LED PCB strips to be connected from above
The connector manufacturer Global Connector Technology is offering an economical solution for connecting PCB strips in end to end orientation. Often desirable in solid state lighting applications where space tends to be limited, in combination a vertical SMT socket and U-Shaped header allow horizontal PCB mating with plugging from above. The new solution from GCT allows LED strip PCB’s to be slotted into place and a U-Shaped header to be plugged in later, an additional benefit is easy repair and maintenance. GCT’s White Lite connector range is available
in 2- 6 circuits, vertical socket (BG306) mates with either single insulator (BG304) and double insulator (BG305) U Shaped headers. Insulators are LCP in natural colour for better aesthetic effect, the light coloured parts reduce light absorption and shadows.
Molex unveils Brad Ultra-Lock (M12) EX connection system for Class I, Division 2 and Zone 2 Hazardous Locations
Molex Incorporated has introduced the Brad Ultra-Lock (M12) EX Connection System, providing process automation installers with a safe, quick connection interface for instrumentation and control devices in potentially explosive and hazardous areas.
As with other Brad Ultra-Lock connectors, the Ultra-Lock (M12) EX features patented push-to- lock technology, providing a simple and secure operator-independent connection. In addition, the Ultra-Lock (M12) EX includes an integral isolating ring that limits access to the release mechanism of the connector, allowing the connector to be pushed on but requiring a screwdriver to disconnect. Because the connection point is considered non-arcing it is suitable for use in a Class I, Division 2 and Zone 2 classified areas.
“Molex understands the extreme challenges associated with operating in potentially explosive and hazardous locations and our products are developed to take into account safety, reliability and productivity in the toughest environments,” said Jimmy Adjunta, product manager, Molex. “Both the innovative isolating ring on the Ultra- Lock (M12) EX and the decision to make the locking mechanism integral to the cordset help to
reduce costs and increase productivity but without compromising safety.” The Ultra-Lock (M12) EX includes pre-wired moulded connections with polarised positioning on the cordset, providing more reliable performance in high vibration applications and reduced wiring termination errors. The radial seal offers IP67 / IP68 / IP69K watertight connections for temporary submersion making the connectors ideal for environments such as oil refineries, petrochemical complexes, waste water processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and food and beverage processing plants.

Hypertac REP connectors from Aerco suit demanding applications requiring speedy interconnect
Hypertac REP high-reliability, rectangular, plastic connectors are now available from Aerco with no minimum order quantities. The connectors are suitable for any environment requiring quick and secure connection, in particular demanding applications as found in the rail and defence industries. Aerco can also provide complete, fully- tested, pre-cabled assemblies designed to specific customer requirements. Available with pin layouts from two to 12-
way, the REP series uses the Hypertac high- performance ‘hyperboloid’ contact technology that ensures low contact resistance and a high current of up to 13A continuous and meets 18A according to NFF61-030. Shock and vibration proof according to EN61373, resistant to salt spray and fire and smoke with low toxicity emission, the REP connectors use an innovative contact design that allows for a lower mating force thereby increasing the life of the contacts up to 500 mating cycles thus reducing service costs. Interfacial seals and integral rear grommets ensure environmental sealing to IP66 and IP67. The operating temperature range is from -40 to +100°C.
Only one size of contact is used to crimp 22 September 2012
across a range of wires ranging from 0.5 to 2.5mm” and this reduces supply chain costs and means that only one set of tools is required over the range of insert layouts. Customers can polarise the connectors themselves by configuring three coding keys thus simplifying the part number system.
The REP series will find applications in all types of embedded equipment ranging from brakes, sensors, lighting, air conditioning and communication equipment and is ideal for market sectors such as the railway, defence, automotive, test and measurement, industrial and public utilities industries.

Harting has launched a range of straight D-Sub surface-mount connectors to complement its established angled product portfolio. The new connectors feature an optimised design that ensures a high level of dependability and optimal processing characteristics. Their surface-mount capability significantly simplifies PCB assembly and broadens their range of applications. 100% co-planarity is achieved through the use of stamped contacts and a specially designed insulator. This robust solution is capable of withstanding all normal handling processes. Two variants are available: a connector for
standard applications with flat solderable pads to withstand plug-in and withdrawal forces and a variant for more demanding requirements with a solderable assembly pin in addition to the flat pads.
The black insulator, which is designed for
improved camera detection, includes two positioning pegs for improved pick & place process reliability. Also included is a large
removable cover for a 10 mm vacuum pipette. All connectors are available with 9 to 37 contacts and are supplied with the option of M3 and 4-40 UNC threaded inserts and fixed female screw locks. Performance levels 2 and 3 are standard, and PL1 can be delivered upon request. In addition to 140-piece reels suitable for automatic assembly, these products can be delivered in other special packaging depending on customer requirements.

New composite Mil-DTL-38999 Series III connector to reduce aircraft weight
ITT Interconnect Solutions has launched a new composite connector developed specifically for the aerospace market. The move comes in response to the demands being placed on military and commercial aerospace manufacturers to reduce the weight of operational aircraft and lightweight components can play a key role in achieving this. Consequently, many OEM's are migrating from aluminium to lightweight composite materials for all components. Suitable for both military and commercial aircraft, the new Mil-DTL 38999 Series III composite connector is engineered using advanced materials and techniques. Marketed under the ITT Cannon brand, the new Mil-DTL-38999 Series III composite connector is on average 30% lighter than equivalent standard aluminium interconnects. Full advantage has been taken of recent improvements in the qualified 'KJB' design, which include part standardisation plus faster and easier assembly. The new Mil-DTL-38999 Series III composite connector includes Mil-DTL- 38999/20 Wall Mount Receptacles and
38999/26 Straight Plugs in both Class J olive drab cadmium and Class M electroless nickel. Qualified operational temperature range for Class J is -65deg.C to +175deg.C, and for Class M -65degC to +200degC. Suitable applications include military and commercial aircraft, avionics systems and unmanned aerospace vehicles. The new Mil-DTL-38999 Series III Class J & M composite connectors will be available for purchase in 4th quarter 2012, pending full DLA approval.
