The world’s leading waterpark supplier has opened a new European office in Barcelona. WhiteWater’s new base in the Spanish city will be staffed by Sean Hinton, vice-president of business development for Europe, Russia the Middle East and Africa. A hub for the activities of both WhiteWater and PrimePlay, it will co-ordinate the satellite offices already in operation across the region.
Arctic Blast
The real estate investment trust CNL Lifestyle Properties has acquired Florida’s Rapids Water Park. CNL will now lease the venue to operator Rapids Holdings LLC, led by former Six Flags executive Kieran Burke. Through their vehicle Premier Attractions Management and other affiliates, Burke and his partners now operate six other North American parks, three of which are owned by CNL Lifestyle Properties. With this acquisition, CNL Lifestyle Properties’ attractions portfolio is comprised of 20 properties across 12 US states.
Following the installation of several Zamperla rides, including a MotoCoaster, Samba Tower and Jumping Star among others, Jin Jiang Amusement Park in Shanghai has chosen another two classic Zamperla attractions to add more thrills to its line-up. A Windshear (Top Spin-style ride) and a Power Surge were due to open this summer.
Single people looking for a date were invited to try their luck at Gardaland on July 19 when the Italian park staged a “Dogana dei Single” (Customs of Singles) event. Lonely hearts turning up before lunch were presented with “Certified Single” medal to hang around the neck so that they could be identified by other singles. Whether true love blossomed we are unsure, but the park created plenty of buzz on various social networks, which was surely one of the purposes of the event.

Recently appointed to the management team, headed by Jan Mulder and executive managing director Steven Shaiken, is former Drayton Manor (UK) operations manager Edward Pawley, who will act as the park’s general manager. Combined visits to the theme park, waterpark, entertainment village and hotels are forecast at approximately 2.6 million in 2015, rising to over 4.5 million in 2024. AWW developers cite the project’s central location close to the A1/A2 motorways and good high-speed railways and airport access as key to its potential success.

North Pole Encounter
Keen to stimulate trade outside the traditional Halloween season, the operator of a scare attraction in northwest England is to stage a special summer event. Horror Camp LIVE! (
horrorcamplive.co.uk) is the brainchild of AtmosFEAR! Entertainment Group, the company behind Scare Kingdom Scream Park in Lancashire. Described as the UK's first immersive horror camping entertainment experience, the event will take place at Hawkshaw Farm Park for four nights only, August 10/11/18 and September 22. Campers will meet around the fire to enjoy a two-course meal and a horror movie, followed by a night of dare-based challenges and torment from live actors. Sleep tight...
Seoul’s Lotte World indoor/outdoor theme has chosen two new Zamperla family rides, a Mega Disk’O and a Flying Tigers. The latter will be themed in collaboration with Gary Goddard.
The Dutch technology company Lagotronics has released a new 3D interactive dark ride shooting system, developed in conjunction with the Belgian company De Pinxi. Two customers are currently under negotiation, but in future systems could be developed with any supplier of dark ride transport systems, including ETF, Mack and SBF. Scenery will be supplied by on request by Theme Builders.
