Grizzly Gulch

Disney brings Wild West to Hong Kong

Grizzly Gulch, the first themed area of its kind at a Disney park, was launched last month at Hong Kong Disneyland as a highlight of the venue’s

ongoing three-year expansion T

he new Wild West land follows the introduction less than a year ago of Toy Story Land, and is designed to increase the appeal of the Hong

Kong park to young visitors seeking thrill and adventure. Grizzly Gulch transports guests to a quintessential, bustling western Gold Rush township, at the heart of which lies the Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars. This attraction, which uses a ride system from Vekoma, takes passengers on a fast-paced adventure punctuated by unexpected forward launches, backward dashes and rapid turns. Enhancing the experience considerably is the park’s lush, natural terrain.

This unique terrain-style coaster is complemented by attractions including the live action Grizzly Gulch Welcome Wagon Show and Geyser Gulch water play area. Guests can also meet their favourite Disney characters dressed in Gold Rush-era outfits, take advantage of numerous Wild West photo opportunities, grab a bite to eat at the Lucky Nugget

Saloon or stock up on Grizzly Gulch-inspired gifts from the Bear Necessities store. “With its interactive water features, immersive entertainment elements and a thrilling multidirectional coaster that crisscrosses the entire area, Grizzly Gulch is a spectacular addition to Hong Kong Disneyland and the Disney parks portfolio,” states Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. The current expansion of the park will be complete next year with the debut of Mystic Point, including the Mystic Manor dark ride. By the time the work is done the park will have increased its footprint by almost 25%. The whole project is expected to be completed one year ahead of schedule. “The completion of this three-phase expansion project demonstrates the continued growth of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and our commitment to enriching the park’s experience to a broader range of guests,” notes managing director Andrew Kam. “This will further contribute to Hong Kong’s overall attractiveness as Asia’s top tourist destination.”
