Goods In/Goods Out Case Study

Cracking solution T

he entire project was man- aged by Transdek, from the initial consultation through to completion, and incorporated

the unique V2G (vehicle to ground) lift and a bespoke warehouse extension to facilitate Manton’s on-going expansion. Harrogate-based Manton Eggs is an industry-leading processor of liquid egg products, and operates one of the UK’s largest egg processing facilities, capable of processing more than one-million eggs per day. Products are supplied to various food processors, such as bakeries, for wholesale and commercial use throughout the country. As part of Manton’s expansion plans to manage increased volumes, the com- pany needed to increase its warehous- ing capabilities to facilitate the increase in inbound/outbound deliveries into its new production area, and in do- ing so, optimise loading effi ciencies.

RENOWNED EGG-SPERTISE Transdek has installed its innovative V2G lift that enables the company to more ef-

fectively unload the products from vehicles to ground level at its fl at-fl oor site. Trans- dek, renowned for its expertise in provid- ing bespoke solutions, tailored the lift to meet Manton’s exact requirements, and incorporated an inspection area, allowing eggs to be examined for quality purposes prior to entering the processing plant. Transdek also designed and engineered a bespoke warehouse extension to fa- cilitate direct fork lift truck access through an existing, adjacent doorway that was fully enclosed and covered both the warehouse and lift unit. This ensured a safe and secure working environment. The complete extension was fi tted with cladding to match the existing premises, and incorporated an exterior drainage system along with two roller shutter doors and two high-speed doors, all interlocked to maintain an internal environment unaf- fected by the outside weather. Emergency egress doors were also built into the unit. In line with all Transdek products, the V2G was surface mounted, eliminating

the need for civil engineering works. The entire project was completed and commis- sioned within just fi ve days and features wheel guides installed in the delivery yard to aid smooth vehicle docking. “Transdek offered a very cost-effective solu- tion that met or exceeded all our criteria,” said Mark Openshaw, plant operations manager at Manton Eggs. “The entire project was managed seamlessly and quickly. The new extension with V2G lift has signifi cantly improved our operational effi ciency and can easily handle our planned growth.” The V2G solution also provides green ben-

efi ts to reduce the use of energy and meet Manton’s environmental goals to minimise its carbon footprint, by featuring insulated cladding, roof light panels, PIRs and LUX sensors – that switch lights off automatically according to available daylight and activ- ity – and LED traffi c lights system for safe operation of the two loading bays. 
