CULPRIT SESSIONS, THE STANDARD ROOFTOP, DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

ELECTRIC ZOO FESTIVAL, RANDALL’S ISLAND PARK, NEW YORK CITY

FRIDAY AUGUST 31 - SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 2 DAVID GUETTA, AXWELL, STEVE AOKI, ABOVE & BEYOND, BENNY BENASSI, CLAUDE VONSTROKE, A-TRAK, PRETTY LIGHTS, TIËSTO, SKRILLEX, BOYS NOIZE, DIPLO & MORE

This Labor Day Weekend, Made Event’s labor of love takes over Randall’s Island NYC for the 4th installment of the Electric Zoo Festival. Bright lights, big city! Or would that be Pretty Lights in this case (yeah, we just did)? Co-founders Mike Bindra and Laura De Palma have created another stellar four-stage EDM celebration alongside New York’s East River — hello, backdrop heaven. The line-up is massive, with headliners including David Guetta, Axwell, Above & Beyond, Benny Benassi, Tiësto and Skrillex, and that’s barely scratching the surface.

Taking the reins and curating their own Zoo experience at the Riverside Stage are A-Trak (Friday) and previous DJ Mag USA cover star Aoki (Saturday). With summa-time on the wind-down, get ready to put in some serious work on the grassfloor. Not only is EDM reaching new heights in this country, but festival production has become a refined art in the process for which, in its relatively young existence, Electric Zoo can comfortably claim a top spot. So bring a flag, plant it, and claim your piece of the island at what is most certainly going down as one of the best ongoing festivals in the country.

SUNDAY AUGUST 26 HOT NATURED (JAMIE JONES & LEE FOSS), RICHY AHMED, ROBERT JAMES

The Hot Creations crew is set to bless the West Coast with goodness and vibes for their 2012 summertime contribution to Droog’s Culprit Sessions on the rooftop of The Standard in downtown LA. Somehow amazingness seem to be the status quo when spending Sunday rooftop time at this place, but this session? Get there. And get there early. The accolades for Jamie Jones alone (which take in Best DJ and Best Producer) are many, so whether you’re taking a moment to reminisce on the good things of summer 2012 (though isn’t it always summer in LaLa Land?) or prepping for a Burning Man life-altering journey in the weeks ahead, this daytime session promises what the underground electronic scene has grown to love about the Crosstown Rebels roster. Ridiculously. Good. Music.
