In line with this ethos, HBM has introduced several new products to


complement its universal and highly flexible QuantumX and MGCplus data acquisition systems. The latest of these is the modular


PMX data acquisition and control system for production and industrial test benches. The PMX system is designed for optimal integration in modern automation systems by utilising the real time Ethernet protocols Ethercat and Profinet. The PMX samples signals at 19.2 kHz, internally processes them and transfers the results in real time. This facilitates the monitoring of production processes such as fitting or pressing in a production plant while ensuring effective machine and plant monitoring. The PMX system can be operated as a stand-alone device or in automation networks with several PMX devices automatically synchronized. By using Ethernet communication can easily be established with a PC for configuration or visualization. Another recent product from HBM is the CX22W data recorder that extends the capabilities of the QuantumX series by providing a local storage option for any measurement data. The CX22W can be used for stand-alone data logging eliminating the need to connect the system to a PC. Step-by-step measurement tasks can easily be configured either by using a connected PC or wirelessly, utilizing a WLAN. Recording of data can be controlled using a number of different methods. One option is to manually use the integrated start/stop key. Alternatively the recording can be by auto start, or event-driven. Finally there is the option of using intelligent triggers. This means that the operation of the measurement system is totally self-contained. Typical applications for self-contained measurement systems such as the CX22W include mobile applications, such as in vehicles, and the stationary, long-term monitoring of buildings. Another product launched this past year was the espressoDAQ series of USB-based measuring amplifiers designed to reliably acquire virtually all measured quantities. Although the measuring amplifiers are small and inexpensive, they provide very high quality and performance capability, such as carrier frequency technology and A/D converter with a resolution of 24 bit. Modules can be supplied that either draw power from the USB interface or a separate power pack can be utilized. A single USB hub can operate several measuring amplifiers to provide fully synchronized measurement systems. This means that users can obtain measurement results extremely rapidly.


Typical espressoDAQ applications are found, for example, in the service sector


where measurements can be easily and rapidly implemented with a laptop and a small module. The espressoDAQ modules are ideally intended suited for applications where larger measurement systems would be too complicated and expensive.
