Welcome to your July/August issue of The Teacher.

Teachers continue to be attacked by a government that does not listen and seems intent on denigrating the profession we love. To fight this more effectively, we have signed a historic agreement with the NASUWT, which our front cover shouts out loud and clear! Read about it on pages 12 and 13, with an update on our pensions campaign. At the time of going to press, ballot papers had been sent out asking eligible members to vote YES for strike and non-strike action. Remember to vote YES. Please return your ballot paper as soon as possible.

Elsewhere, read about our new joint union model appraisal policy on page 15 and about the changes in SEN and behaviour regulations on pages 36 and 37. Our phonics campaign gathers momentum and you can find out more about that on page 28.

Have a great summer!

Christine Blower, General Secretary
