Classroom management software responds to the needs of 21st century teaching

T

he ICT curriculum may be under scrutiny, but there’s no denying education’s commitment to embracing the latest technology.

Leading suppliers are doing their bit to help schools put technology in the hands of more students. Thin clients, shared resources and virtual desktops are examples of the latest technologies making their mark. The explosion of smartphones and tablets onto the consumer market means tech savvy children may be ahead of the game but education is catching up with iPads, for example, starting to make an appearance in the classroom.

Providing the latest

technology is one thing, but the constant in all of this is the need to ensure that it is managed effectively.

Throughout these years of innovation, classroom management software has been the teacher’s ally, providing the tools they need to enhance computer-led teaching and keep students on task.

NetSupport, developer of market-leading solution NetSupport School, is well placed to chart the continuing relevance of classroom management software and, as Marketing Manager Chris Lovesey explains, while not forgetting its roots, soon to be released version 11 is set to further broaden the product’s appeal: “Look beyond the monitoring capabilities traditionally associated with this type of software and you’ll find in new version 11 a product that is as much about helping teachers assess student performance and providing support for the range of platforms in use within the modern classroom. “Highlights include a new collaborative Question and Answer module that gives teachers the ability to gauge student understanding and deliver assessment for learning in the classroom as

well as utilise different questioning techniques, such as basketball questioning within the lesson. The module encourages greater student participation as well as providing a framework and features specifically for peer assessment and collaboration.

“We are also introducing a free downloadable ‘Tutor Assistant’ app, for use on iPads, iPhones, iPods and Android Tablets, that delivers greater mobility for teachers and their assistants around the ICT-equipped classroom. Further extending our platform compatibility, NetSupport School 11 will also support students using Google’s Chrome OS Chromebooks.

“We haven’t overlooked the vital function technicians perform in ensuring a school’s ICT infrastructure is fit for purpose - v11 delivers a

greatly enhanced set of tech tools, including the ability to apply school-wide policy restrictions on internet, application, USB memory stick and printer usage without the need for a dedicated server and introduced new security profiles to ensure compliance across the school. The refreshing approach taken by suppliers like NetSupport to ensure their solutions keep pace with the changing technology landscape certainly bodes well for the future of ICT…or should that be Computer Science?
