At NAB Jünger Audio announced a strategic partnership with Thomson Video Networks that will bring Jünger’s audio loudness technology to the ViBE encoding platform. With sophisticated handling of loudness built in, ViBE encoders will allow customers to achieve a reduced infrastructure footprint, as well as providing a simpler and more effective solution to regulatory loudness requirements. The two companies will work


jointly to integrate Jünger’s Level Magic algorithm into the ViBE platform, and the technology will be incorporated into new ViBE products from Q3 2012. An easy software upgrade will be available to customers of existing ViBE EM4000 and VS7000 units.

Technologies partnered with Ross Video to redefine production automation. Ovation’s PC-based audio mixer and GUI interfaces have allowed Ross Video to incorporate the full audio system into its OverDrive control cockpit within its existing desktop space. Using the RAP protocol, they are able to use Vision audio modules and OverDrive to drive the audio engine directly while using the PC-based GUI supplied by Ovation to provide status and deep control. “The tie-up came about


through a common customer who was interested in how we combine the Ovation audio packages with our OverDrive automation system. The way that Ross typically develops interfaces is driven on demand. OverDrive is


a fairly open architecture in terms of who we want to work with,” said Allan Pepper, OverDrive Technical Marketing Product manager with Ross Video. “We’re trying to provide a location to do the ‘one man band’. Whether it’s a small production or a large production we’re trying to give that operator all the tools that they need access to to manage an entire production.” Chris Hollebone, sales operation


manager, Merging Technologies, said: “When building new facilities, the whole pressure is to get the space down to the minimum. You don’t need to have a big mixer because Ovation has a very powerful mixing engine as part of its backbone. So you don’t need to have a big mixing console, which makes a huge difference to the amount of real estate they’ve got to provide.” “We see this strategic partnership, particularly for a product like Ovation, as very helpful for us. Being a small company it’s quite hard to get into the big facilities. If you’re then part of a packaged solution, it’s a great way to introduce products to people.”

Dolby support Phabrix released two new audio options available for its handheld Sx range of video test and measurement instruments. The new option supports Dolby E bitstream generation and Dolby E bitsteam analysis.

With the growing importance


of Dolby E enabling surround sound, Phabrix’s release of what it claims is a world first Dolby generator provides a full range of programme configurations at both 16 and 20 bit. Metadata can be altered with adjustable starting frame rate and output as AES or embedded if required. The Dolby E analyser can be set to check the metadata using colour identified fields. Eight channel audio metering and guard band analysis with comprehensive logging make up the toolset. Neumann’s KK 204 and KK


205 capsules, which, when used with Sennheiser’s 2000 Series, are the wireless versions of the famed KMS 104 and 105 wired handhelds. These new capsules from Neumann provide natural warmth with no exaggerated

Live recording Solid State Logic introduced its Live Recorder system for high channel count live, location or broadcast recording. Live Recorder is suitable for live music recording from FOH console systems, location film sound recording, TV broadcast production studios and broadcast production trucks. It connects via standard optical MADI so can connect directly to MADI equipped digital mixing consoles, venue audio distribution infrastructure (Riedel, Optocore etc) or broadcast routers. Harman’s Studer showed how


efficiently it can control newsroom playout or production automation systems with its full range of broadcast consoles, demonstrating the expanded integration of the EMBER protocol into Studer Vista consoles, in addition to the existing inclusion in Studer’s OnAir range of consoles. Leading its lineup of six new


products was the Studer Vista 1 Compact, a Studer Vista console in a compact and low-cost configuration complete as a single chassis, with control surface, I/O connections and DSP all integral, considerably reducing weight and footprint. The new desk is suited to both fixed and portable systems,while its compact size makes it suitable for OB and ENG vans.
