Its initial product, announced at NAB, will be the ODS-D55 drive unit, with a USB 3.0 interface, which will handle an Optical Disc Cartridge containing 12 discs that can be accessed as a single volume. It is claimed to offer direct and
quicker access than linear data tape systems. The media is designed to withstand changes in temperature and humidity, and to be dust and water-resistant. The ODS-D55 will be available in the Autumn, although no price has been revealed. ProxSys PA: From edit to archive

VITEC MULTIMEDIA is expected to release a new low-cost archive system, the ProxSys PA in August. It will automatically archive XDCAM, P2, AVCHD, AVC-Intra, .mov, .avi, H.264, MPEG-2, and uncompressed video to LTO-5 tapes, and will be able to handle any other file format via an external render engine. It will also include the
ability to archive and retrieve complete nonlinear editing projects from Adobe Premiere, Apple Final Cut Pro, Grass Valley Edius and Avid Media Composer. According to Richard Payne, technical development manager at Holdan, its distributor, “the target price is £7,500 for a turnkey 10TB system, with an expandable, more flexible system for about just over £10,000.” It will come with built in RAID 5 drives, either 4TB (the Desktop PA-10, which uses a desktop HP computer with internal LTO-5 drive) or 10TB (the Rackmount PA-50, which will come with an HP computer in a rack unit with external LTO-5 drive). There will also be a version that allows users to add their own drives.

The system can also act as an NLE edit server, to store video or an edit project for rapid access and can then automatically copy it off to LTO according to the rules you give it (such as after 30 days). It will auto-import any
existing metadata, and further metadata can be added during ingest or later, online, from a web browser. It also automatically generates browsable proxies, which remain with the metadata on the internal storage. The PA-10 can store about 5,000 hours of proxy files and the PA-50 can store 10,000 hours. Payne believes that the PA series will “fulfil the archiving needs of smaller production companies” and be “a reliable and intuitive system that takes the fear out of the file-based video archiving process.”
