Johannesburg. The goal of the joint venture, in which Evonik holds a 51 percent stake, is the production of high-quality PLEXIGLAS®
sheeting and its marke-
ting, particularly in the growth markets of the African continent.
lamel reported total revenues for the first quarter 2012 of $7.3 million versus total revenues of
$6.8 million in the year-ago period. The growth was driven by increased production of Coreg CR®
micro-
particles. License and research revenues were $2.1 million during the first quarter of 2012, versus $3.2 million in the first quarter of 2011. Product sales and services during the first quarter of 2012 were $3.4 million versus $1.6 million during the year-ago quar- ter. Other revenues, consisting primarily of royalty income from GSK on the sales of Coreg CR®
, were
$1.9 million, a slight decrease compared to the first quarter of 2011.
Net loss for the first quarter of 2012 was $4.7 mil- lion versus a net loss of $4.9million in the year-ago period. Net loss per share (basic and diluted) was $0.19 versus a net loss per share (basic and diluted) of $0.20 in the first quarter of 2011. The financial results for the first quarter 2012 are not consolidated to include the activity of Éclat Pharmaceuticals for the period from March 13, 2012, date of acquisition, to March 31, 2012.
E Global Research presented new research findings on its nanotextured anti-icing surfaces.
In addition to dramatically reducing ice adhesion, these surfaces now have been shown to significantly delay the onset of ice formation in simulated atmos- pheric icing conditions. The team’s findings were presented at the APS’ 2012 March Meeting.

The above figures show the benefits of GE’s nano- coatings in delaying ice formation when compared with existing surfaces. GE scientists measured the onset of icing by monitoring the temperature of a supercooled drop of water on the surface, using an infrared camera. The spike in the drop temperature indicates the start of icing. © GE Azar Alizadeh, Masako Yamada, Ri Li, Wen Shang, Shourya Otta, Sheng Zhong, Liehui Ge, Ali Dhinojwala, Ken R.
