A Year in the Field – Public Art Project Christine Mackey Artist Christine Mackey is currently developing a unique public art project with the help of the 5th/6th class students of St Patrick’s Boys National School in Donabate.

She has spent a year researching and gathering information on the ecology of a field near St. Ita’s in Donabate and has devised a workbook with a series of activities which encourage all ages to engage with their natural environment. With the help of the artist the students are getting the opportunity to explore their natural environment and enjoy activities such as listening for and identifying local birds and documenting local insects and plants.

The workbook will be available to the public in the autumn.

Art and Architecture Student Collaboration

Fingal Arts Office recently formed a partnership with the Irish Architecture Foundation to deliver unique collaborative projects between students and architects.

In May, students from Balbriggan Community College and Santa Sabina School (Sutton) engaged in exploratory workshops with two architects in their respective schools. The aim of the collaboration was to increase the student’s appreciation and understanding of design by acquainting them with various design issues.

Workshops placed an emphasis on 3D drawing and model making, and the architects were a catalyst in bringing the students intuitive ability to critically engage with their natural and built environment to the fore.

Fingal Arts Office and the Irish Architecture Foundation intend to nurture this new collaboration for the benefit of young people in Fingal.
