Grede Acquires Virginia Casting Industries Grede Holdings LLC, Southfi eld,

Mich., has acquired substantially all the assets of Virginia Casting Industries LLC, Radford, Va. Renamed Grede Radford

the terms of which were not disclosed, is Grede’s third in the past 12 months. Current employment at the Radford facility is 170. T e company said in a press release it expects to expand to 270 employees in 2013.


“Grede Radford is a perfect


complement to our automotive portfolio,” said Doug Grimm, Grede’s chairman, president and CEO. “It is very similar to our St. Cloud, Minn., foundry.” Last April, Grede acquired


NovoCast and Teknik, both based in Monterrey, Mexico. Last November, the casting conglomerate acquired the Paxton Mitchell Corp., Omaha, Neb. Grede estimates its annual revenues


exceed $1 billion. It now has 5,270 employees among its 17 metalcasting facilities and four machining operations in North America. 


EJ Acquires Syracuse Castings

provider EJ, East Jordan, Mich., announced it bought Syracuse Castings Sales Corp., Cicero, N.Y., and Syracuse Castings West Corp., Tooele, Utah. EJ, composed of municipal castings maker East Jordan Iron Works and its affi liates, has acquired select assets of both Syracuse companies, which design and manufacture fabricated access products for the construction and utility industries. T e acquired companies sell municipal castings in central New York state and Utah. “T is acquisition creates opportunity


to provide customers with more fabricated products using current EJ channels of distribution,” said T omas Teske, EJ vice president and general manager. “We also believe we’ll be able to serve current Syracuse customers.” EJ and the Syracuse companies


have a history of mutual supply. In the past, Syracuse has provided EJ with products for resale. EJ has been a major supplier to Syracuse for markets in New York and Utah. EJ’s sales offi ces, manufacturing


facilities and R&D centers are on fi ve continents, with product distribution in more than 140 countries. As a result of this acquisition, additional custom steel and aluminum fabricated products will become available as part of the EJ product line. 
