Virginia Beach Sustainable meetings in an innovative destination
The first convention center to achieve LEED Gold certification for Existing Buildings, the Virginia Beach Convention Center captures the true essence of the coastal city with its forward-thinking design. Renewable ele- ments throughout — Cumaru wood flooring, energy-eficient glass, and on-site gardens
— convey the destination’s commitment to preserving its natural resources, and flexible meeting space, including a 150,000-square- foot exhibit hall and a 31,000-square-foot ballroom, can be checked off every planner’s want list. Just like its convention center, Virginia
Beach’s recreation and off-site venues are anything but ordinary. The newly updated
Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art and the Virginia Aquarium make grand settings for receptions, and 35 miles of beaches give attendees plenty of sand to dig their toes into during pre- or post-trips. Other diver- sion options include whale watching, hiking through state parks, and strolling the lively three-mile boardwalk. As for accessibility and accommodations,
options are plentiful. Two-thirds of the U.S. population is within an easy flight or drive to Virginia Beach, and downtown is just 20 minutes from Norfolk International Airport. Out of 12,000 area hotel rooms, 3,500 are within 2.5 miles or less of the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
