CHAPTER CORNER

Oh, the Stories You’ll Tell

Telling Tales Dave Lieber lit the storytelling spark at the Gulf States Chapter meeting.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram columnist Dave Lieber shared “The Secrets of Storytelling: How to Get Your Event on the Front Page and the Six O’Clock News” at the Gulf States Chapter meeting in Dallas on March 20. Lieber “is an amazing storyteller and presenter,” said chapter member Jeff Hurt, execu- tive vice president of

education and engagement for Velvet Chain- saw Consulting. “He gave attendees concrete and relevant ways to get their meetings and events in the media.” Top takeaways?

“He taught us to look for the personal stories from our meetings to pitch to media first before sending press releases,” Hurt said.

“He also explained how most of today’s news revolves around stories, and how important it was to get into the habit of storytelling and story sharing.”
