MOVEMENT FESTIVAL, DETROIT, USA Movement 2012 line-up Public Enemy, Lil’ Louis & Jeff Mills headline electronic music festival

WHILE Detroit is the city that defi nes urban decay, its post-industrial landscape so devastated that abandoned buildings are being overgrown by plant life reoccupying the ground that they were once cleared from, it’s legacy as the birthplace of techno still remains as mythologically strong as ever. The Movement Electronic Music Festival, which takes place on May 26-28, ensures that for at least one weekend a year those inspired, directly or indirectly, by the city get to pay tribute. Taking place over fi ve stages, the 2012 line-up mixes bona fi de legends like Dopplereffekt and Kevin Saunderson with young upstarts such as Seth Troxler and Kyle Hall.

But there’s plenty beyond the obvious proliferation of electro and techno, from araabMUZIK’s ultra-quick MPC-crafted hip-hop and dubstep to the New York electronica of FaltyDL or the funk-laced house of Maceo Plex. Add OG house gangster Lil’ Louis headlining on Saturday 26th, boisterous hip-hop noise crew Public Enemy on Sunday 27th and Jeff Mills, aka The Wizard, on Monday 28th May and you have an event that many industry insiders are calling the most exciting dance festival in the world.
