Intelliconnect extend range of Weatherproof Triaxial Connectors

Intelliconnect (Europe) Ltd has extended its range of high-reliability Triaxial connector to include various adaptors, and bulkhead mount jacks for several different cable types. These are available in the two existing families of Triax connectors; the TRB series of bayonet couple connectors and also the TRT series which features a threaded coupling sleeve.

These connectors are manufactured in the UK,

are suitable for high or low volume applications, feature a high integrity clamp construction and are weatherproof. The connector’s key features include: low noise, isolated ground, non-constant impedance and may be used with both Twinax or Triax cable types. Triaxial connectors are commonly used in industrial, broadcast and medical applications, including nuclear medicine, camera cables where reduced ‘noise’ or interference levels are required and to ensure accuracy of measurements in medical dosiometry systems. The standard double screening of Intelliconnect Triax connectors makes them very useful in military

and aerospace applications by providing high EMC integrity.

New 100% "green" universal contact Z Series for hand-held devices

ITT Interconnect Solutions has launched a new Universal Contact Z series (UCZ) specially developed for the burgeoning market in hand- held devices, such as smart phones, GPS systems and hand-held medical monitoring devices. The new UCZ series was developed in

response to a customer request for beryllium-free contacts and improved VSWR. In hand-held applications, high hertz forces and effective repeatability are very important factors which maintain product reliability.

A further critical consideration is a small form factor - and the new UCZ product series offers on average a 25% reduction in length over industry-standard contacts, freeing up significant board space.

ITT ICS selected a titanium copper alloy for the new UCZ "removed series" dry circuit pressure contact series in place of industry- standard beryllium copper. The alloy was tested

for optimum electrical and mechanical performance. Once positive results had been proven, the thickness and required radii were determined in order to achieve high hertz forces, maximum deflection and low contact resistance. Further advantages of the new UCZ contacts

are improved RF performance for antenna applications and increased tolerance during the assembly process.

The new Universal Contact Z series will be available in six different free heights. Heights available from March 2012 are 1.8mm, 2.5mm and 3.5mm. Further applications for UCZ beryllium-free contacts are military communications devices and computing equipment.

zQSFP+ high-speed, high-density interconnect for data rates up to 40 Gbps

TE Connectivity has made available the new zQSFP+ (z-Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Plus) connector and cage assembly – a high- density, high-speed product solution designed for the telecommunications, data center and networking markets. This new interconnect has been designed to meet next-generation 100- Gbps Ethernet (100 GbE) and 100-Gbps 4X InfiniBand Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) requirements by offering four lanes of high- speed differential signals – with data rates ranging from 25 Gbps up to potentially 40 Gbps. The zQSFP+ interconnect is backwards- compatible with current QSFP+ optical modules and cable assemblies. Designed with an enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) cage, the connector helps provide thermal performance and EMI protection. In addition, the zQSFP+ product offers signal integrity as well as mechanical and electrical performance through a preferential coupling design – i.e. coupled, narrow-edged, blanked- and formed-contact geometry with insert molding.

Users will see PCB space-savings with this new connector as its staggered press-fit pins accommodate belly-to-belly applications – enabling the use of both sides of a PCB. Additionally, the connector’s housing is made from high-temperature, thermoplastic material to withstand lead-free processing.
