Stride out Walking is one of the best loved activities in the Yorkshire Dales. The ‘Getting active’ section of www.yorkshiredales.org.uk has lots of suggestions for short and long trails around the National Park with free maps and easy instructions to download, so just take your pick!


Or you could join one of our guided walks led by experts - from discovering red squirrel country or lead mining remains to wildflower identification - see pages 15-25.

You’ll find books, maps, DVDs and toys - the same as in all our National Park Centres, but from the comfort of your own sofa!


railway offers spectacular views you can’t see from the road and the chance to explore feats of Victorian engineering along the way, such as Ribblehead viaduct. Our Blea Moor guided walk on 15 August includes a ride on the historic line.


Visit www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/traveldales for more information on getting to and around the National Park using public transport. There are also eight linear walks to choose from - just get the bus or train to the start and walk back.


Our National Park Centres (see page 5) have maps and books covering walks for all tastes and abilities. You could even try geocaching, a ‘treasure trail’ adventure using a GPS receiver. Our Information Advisers will be happy to help.
