This special 11 page diary features some of the fantastic events taking place in 2012, including guided walks, traditional agricultural shows and village galas.

Please contact the individual organiser for more information on the event you are interested in - booking is essential for some activities.

You can also ring or call in at a National Park Centre (see page 5) or Tourist Information Centre (see page 28) where staff will be happy to give you guidance.

For more events across the region, visit www.yorkshire.com

Dogs are welcome at many events, but please assume they are not permitted unless otherwise stated and always contact the organiser beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Where dogs are allowed they must be fit enough to negotiate stiles and steep ascents, be well-behaved and be kept under close control at all times. Assistance dogs are always welcome.

With a host of events at different locations across the National Park, this year’s Flowers of the Dales Festival includes fantastic walks, photography courses, art exhibitions, children’s craft activities and identification courses, all with a wildflower theme.

Other activities linked to wildlflower habitats also feature - look out for fungi, butterfly, bird and bee happenings.

The events are run by a range of organisations including the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, National Trust and Natural England, and the Festival is coordinated by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, a charity that works to support the environmental, social and economic well- being of this special area.

Look out for the flower logo here and find the full festival programme at www.ydmt.org

Listings marked as a ‘National Park Event’ and shown with a green background are organised and run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

• Bring warm clothes including gloves and hat and pack sun protection.

• Don’t forget binoculars if you have them.

• Guided walks cost £3 and are FREE for under 16s unless otherwise stated.

• For your own safety and insurance purposes you may be asked to complete a name and address card when you register for one of our outdoor events. Please hand your completed card to the leader before you start. The information will be treated as strictly confidential.

Booking

Some of our most popular events must be pre-booked and pre-paid to guarantee a place.

For others, places are allocated on the day on a ‘first come, first served’ basis - please turn up early to avoid disappointment. Your safety and enjoyment are very important to us so we have to limit numbers. This means that sometimes we may have to turn people away. Please respect the walk leader’s decision. If you are a group of five or more people always ring ahead.

Remember to bring cash to pay at the start of walks as there’s not always a cash machine around!
