What r u doing this weekend?

Whether holidaying with your family, on your first independent trip, or visiting with a group of friends, the National Park has something for you. There’s stacks for young people to do in the Dales and plenty of space to do it in.

Put everything you need into a bag and jump on a bus or train to start your own mini - or mighty - adventure. With youth hostels, bunk barns and campsites to choose from, staying overnight on a budget doesn’t need to be a problem either.

Download our free Yorkshire Dales National Park smartphone app - available for iPhone, Android, Symbian and Blackberry. With facts, trails and even 360 degree panoramas, there

should be plenty to get you inspired.

Check out our fact sheets for safety tips, what to bring and what to expect on a day out in the hills, and always follow the countryside code. www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/youngpeople

If two wheels are your thing, our website www.cyclethedales.org.uk has everything you need to know to get out on your bike in the National Park. There are lovely gentle rides in valley bottoms right up to the challenge of the 130 mile Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way. Or if you like to go off the beaten track then www. mtbthedales.org.uk is for you. Harvey’s Maps available at National Park Centres show graded mountain bike routes.

Browse www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/ traveldales or the journey planner on www.transportdirect.info for how to get to and through the National Park.

Music, drama, caving…the Dales has a festival to cover it! Get a taster of what’s on at www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/festivals.

Why bother?

Getting out into the country can help to protect its future. More people spending money there will help keep it alive. Make sure your visit is as green as possible - take only photos and leave only footprints, and use public transport to get around. There are lots of great attractions and events and delicious things to eat and drink. Plus mountain biking, climbing, walking - any activity in the fresh air that gets your heart and lungs going - can tone you up and make you feel good too. So why not give your mind, body and spirit a treat and get out into the Dales!

Ingleton Overground Underground Festival (27 May to 4 June) offers traditional and unexpected ways to experience the landscape, above and below ground, you can ‘Ride2Stride’ on foot and by rail at the Settle- Carlisle Walking Festival (1 to 7 May), while at Dentdale Music & Beer Festival (22-24 June), well…it does what it says on the tin!
