If you regularly drive in the city then it’s worth having a smaller car that’s not only cheaper to run but is much easier to park. Before you set out make sure you’re loaded up with enough cash for parking. Don’t try and be smart and park on some tatty bit of waste ground or a company’s car park – if you do you might return to your car only to fi nd a gang of friendly wheel-clampers stood waiting for you – oops…

PARKING

“DON’T GO MENTAL IF SOMEONE ELSE MAKES A MISTAKE – AFTER ALL IT COULD BE YOU NEXT TIME! IF ANOTHER DRIVER GOES CRAZY WITH YOU THEN JUST IGNORE THEM – IT REALLY IS THE COOLEST THING TO DO AND MAKES THEM LOOK SOOO SMALL!”

City driving can be a pumped up, red faced, sweaty affair… loads going on that can defi nitely test your mental strength! Like how to respond when the Punto in front keeps braking suddenly and the Beemer behind is right up your back. Not to mention the wild White Van Man who’s just cut you up and oh here’s a lane closure too!!! You have to stay calm, cool and don’t let them drag you into their crazy little world!

COOL CALM AND COLLECTED

And don’t go mental if someone else makes a mistake – after all it could be you next time! If another driver goes crazy with you then just ignore them – itreally is the coolest thing to do and makes them look sooo small! Don’t offer any free advice or tips about someone’s driving. If they pull up alongside you at the next lights it might prove a little embarrassing or downright scary!

If you’re late then live with it! Getting wound up won’t get you there any faster – in fact, probably, the very opposite!

If you need to park on road and it’s really tight you might want to invest in some parking sensors – it will make your life so much easier!

So punters, driving in the city is all about expecting the unexpected especially at junctions and lights. Just because it’s your right of way doesn’t mean that the other driver is actually going to stop…

THINK AHEAD

And think about the ‘what ifs?’… is that girl going to step out? Is that taxi going to suddenly cut me up? Is a motorbike about to appear from nowhere?

Work together with other drivers and we’ll all get where we’re going in one piece! Sounds weird but it’s not a competition!
