You’re welcome to DISCOVER BURLINGTON!

Our area welcomes you to explore twelve months of the year. We offer lakes, rivers, streams, woodlands, summer days and moonlit nights. It’s just the beginning of your experience in our four season recreation area. Visitors can readily enjoy a pleasant afternoon as they stroll along Burlington’s Riverwalk. Adding to the beauty of Burlington’s landscape are dozens of parks, many along the banks of the White and Fox Rivers, offering playground equipment, picnic areas, fishing, and Burlington’s Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market takes place in Wehmhoff Square Park located in Downtown Burlington every Thursday evening May through October from 3 – 7 p.m. The Kiwanis Civic Band performs free concerts in Echo Park during the summer. Don’t forget your blanket and picnic basket!

Our rivers and lakes make Burlington a popular destination for boating, fishing, and water sports enthusiasts alike. Area lakes include Bohner’s Lake, Brown’s Lake, Rockland Lake and Echo Lake – located in the heart of the city. Spend an afternoon canoeing down the Fox River, a lazy day at the beach at Fischer County Park or fish on the banks of the White River. Remember, no visit to Burlington is complete without seeing the Aquaducks Water-Ski Show, the Rotary Barons or the Southern Lakes Blue Devils. The Aquaducks Water-Ski show is free and held on Thursday evenings in the summer at Fischer Park on Brown’s Lake. The Rotary Barons are a semi-professional amateur baseball team that began in 1997. You can see them in action yourself during their season, which runs from the beginning of May through the end of August at Beaumont Field, across from Echo Lake. Last but not at all the least are the Southern Lakes Blue Devils, a semi-professional football team consisting of non-college bound stand-out athletes. The Ironman league consists of 16 teams within Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois, visit www.burlingtonsemiprofootball.com for more information.

Southeastern Wisconsin offers a great variety of trees that provide a wide palette of spectacular color in late September and early October. An excellent way to see our fabulous fall colors is to take a drive along one of our seventeen Rustic Roads (the most of any Wisconsin County), rustic road maps are available at www.dot.wisconsin.gov. Just minutes southeast of Burlington on Rustic Road Hwy. B, you will find two of our areas most valued treasures, AEppelTreow Winery and Brightonwoods Orchard, a collaborative venture that produces award-winning wines, sweet cider and a large variety of heritage apples in season. Across the street sits Richard Bong State Recreational Area with over 4,500 acres of rolling grassland, savanna, wetlands and scattered woodland. Richard Bong State Recreation Area is open year-round offering camping, nature classes, and 41.1 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and dirt bike riding.

The winter months hold much beauty and excitement on the many lakes and rivers surrounding Burlington. Whether you enjoy skating, hockey, fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or making snow angels, one thing is for sure, when it comes to winter fun, Burlington has it all.

In addition to our wealth of outdoor recreational offerings, Burlington is home to several historical, educational, and entertaining attractions. The historic Malt House Theater is home to The Haylofters, one of Wisconsin’s oldest continuing community theaters. The Burlington Historical Society maintains the Burlington Historical Museum and Pioneer Cabin, offers a self-guided walking tour of Historic Burlington, and has traced the BuR SPUR of Wisconsin’s Underground Railroad. Plus, Chocolate Experience Museum, The Spinning Top Exploratory Museum, and Logic Puzzles Museum will delight children and adults alike. Known as the home of the Liars’ Club, Burlington boasts the Tall Tales Trail, a self- guided tour of championship lies immortalized on bronze plaques displayed throughout the downtown area.

Burlington’s official nickname, Chocolate City USA, celebrates Nestle USA’s long term commitment to the community as well as the annual ChocolateFest held every year on Memorial Day weekend. ChocolateFest draws visitors from around the country and grows in popularity every year.
