Although, many of the younger generation reading this article will never have the opportunity to experience Whitney at the height of her career or listen to her music on a cassette tape recorder. In 1992, Whitney played in her first acting role in the movie “The Bodyguard” (1992). The film’s original soundtrack, “I Will Always Love You” won the 1994 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. With the album, Whitney became the first act (solo or group, male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period under Nielsen Sound Scan systems. After The Bodyguard, Whitney continued to star in movies and contribute to soundtracks, including the hit movie “Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher’s Wife (1997).”
On February 11, 2012, Whitney was found dead in her guest room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA her immediate cause is still unknown. She died a day before the 2012 Grammy Awards and she had planned on making a comeback CD with her mentor/ industrial father Clive Davis. Whitney is survived by her mother gospel singer-Cissy Houston, her daughter, - Bobbi Christina Brown and legendary R&B singer cousin Dionee Warwick.
